Why does the job exist?
The primary purpose of this position is to plan, develop, direct, evaluate and coordinate the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training program, also responsible for assuring continuing education for the Certified Medication Aides at a long-term care facility in accordance with current federal and state guidelines.
How does it get done?
Instruct and evaluate students in the classroom, nursing lab and clinical sites.
Participate in and/or assist facility in constructing class schedules, clinical training schedules orientation programs and in-service training classes.
Monitor, track and document the total number of hours of training the students receive.
Who are the customers?
Staff and residents at a long-terms care facility.
Ideal Candidate
Will have:
The ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
The ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.
The ability to function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
Minimum Qualification
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and three (3) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.
Employment Requirements
This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment is subject to nationwide criminal background check and is conditional pending results. Licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico. Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPPA) training.
Working Conditions
Works throughout the nursing service area (i.e., nurses' stations, resident rooms, etc.).
Moves intermittently during working hours. Is subject to frequent interruptions.
Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances. Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department directors. Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.,
State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
