NURSING INSTRUCTOR

195 - DAY CONTRACT

PRIMARY WORK LOCATION: YREKA CAMPUS

This is a 195-day contract, full-time tenure-track faculty position*. The teaching assignment could include a mixture of day, evening, and weekend classes at the Weed or Yreka Campus, or other off-campus sites.
Fairchild Medical Center is sponsoring a 3rd Party, Recruitment and Retention Incentive of $15,000 ($9,000 year one, $3,000year two and $3,000 year three) which will be offered to the selected candidates.

*The LVN to RN Nursing positions are contingent upon re-establishment of the LVN to RN Step-Up Program and/or continued grant funding.
Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Duties related to Nursing Instructor: Responsible for teaching theory and clinical instruction in the Nursing Program (including but not limited to Certified Nursing, Vocational Nursing, LVN to RN Step-up); assist with development of staff, facilities and schedule, possess familiarity of Board of Vocational Nursing and Board of Registered Nursing policies to maintain program approval and standards.
  • Classroom duties: Provide instruction that may include lecture and laboratory classes in the discipline in accordance with established College of the Siskiyous approved curriculum and course outlines, inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures, attendance, and participation requirements in a course syllabus, effectively teach and communicate with students of diverse backgrounds.
  • Interaction with students outside of class: Advise students on academic and career matters, assist in outreach and articulation with high schools, four-year colleges and universities, post and maintain adequate and regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy.
  • Out-of-class duties: Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic and student records, and submit them according to published guidelines, prepare and grade class assignments and evaluations according to course syllabus.
  • Professional and curriculum development: Remain current in field, develop, maintain and evaluate curriculum including development and assessment of student learning outcomes, select textbooks, evaluate course materials, interact with faculty and staff in other areas of instruction and participate in the development of instructional methods, technology, and materials, work with peers in higher education, and where appropriate, business and industry to maintain currency of instructional programs.
  • Interaction with colleagues: Participate in college governance by serving on college committees, participate in professional development, including flex obligations, assist with student and other educational activities in accordance with college policies, establish and maintain effective work relationships.

Minimum Qualifications

Licensing
Valid active California License as a Registered Nurse

Education
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing OR
Bachelor's in nursing AND Master's in health education or health science OR
The equivalent OR the minimum qualification set by the Board of Registered Nursing, whichever is higher

Experience
One (1) year experience within the previous five (5) years in direct patient care in one of the five areas of nursing required by the BRN: Medical/Surgical, Maternal/Child (OB), Pediatric, Geriatric, or Mental Health Nursing, which can be met by #1 or #2 below:

  • One (1) year's continuous, full-time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in the designated nursing area, OR
  • One (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area or its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency AND
  • Completion of a least one (1) year experience teaching courses related to registered nursing or completion of a post-baccalaureate course which include practice in teaching registered nursing

  • Desired Qualifications
    Two Years of experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care in an acute care setting. At least one year of previous experience teaching in a pre-licensure nursing program.
    Recent clinical or teaching experience in one of the five areas of nursing as outlined by the BRN: Medical/Surgical, Maternal/Child (OB), Pediatric, Geriatric, or Mental Health Nursing, and sufficient experience in at least one other area to meet BRN approval through a remediation process.
    Administrative experience in a nursing education program with potential to advance to Assistant Director duties. Excellence in teaching (enthusiasm, knowledge of subject matter, student motivational skills, diverse teaching methods to address a variety of learning styles).
    Experience with Canvas Learning Management System.

    Salary and Benefits
    • The annual salary range for the base assignment of a 195-day contract is $69,795 - $127,724 . Additional compensation available with extended hours. Starting placement on the District salary schedule is based upon years of experience and number of units completed beyond the Master's degree. New academic employees may receive credit for no more than five years of job-related experience. Starting salary range is $69,795 - $94,120.
    • Faculty members with an earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution receive an additional $2,000 annual stipend.

    Selection Process
    After the preliminary screening, selected candidates will be invited to the campus for an initial interview with the Search Committee. Videoconference interviews (in lieu of an in-person initial interview) will be offered. Candidates to be interviewed will be selected from applicants who most closely meet the minimum and desired qualifications. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview.
