Overview

Assist the Chief Medical Officer in their duties and lead the Reproductive Health department in a manner consistent with the clinic's mission and values and adheres to Clinic policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer, this individual's primary responsibilities are to:
  • Provide direct patient medical care that supports PCC values, meets community and PCC standards of care, and uses resources efficiently.
  • Ensure that department policies and procedures reflect best practices and standards of care.
  • Ensure that supervision of Physicians, Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs), and Physician Assistants (PAs) in the department includes chart reviews, annual evaluations, timely feedback, and career development.
  • Work with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Chief Operating Officer (COO), and Center for Women's Health (CWH) Operations Manager (OM) to set productivity goals for the department and develop realistic plans to achieve those goals.
  • Work with the CMO and the Quality department to set quality assurance/improvement goals for the department and develop realistic plans to achieve those goals.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflow, work processes, and patient care. Establish, support, and promote programmatic efforts to improve and maintain patient health, clinic efficiencies, and an interdisciplinary work environment, including attending and organizing appropriate clinic and external meetings.
  • Represent the department's interests to other members of the medical management team, executive management team, and other clinic departments.
  • Support implementation of clinic goals, priorities, and policies in the medical department.
  • Work with Human Resources (HR), CMO, and COO to set staffing goals for providers in the department. Work with HR, Chief Clinical Services Officer (CCSO), and COO to set staffing goals for nursing, medical assistants, and other support staff.
  • Work with the Population Health Department to formulate and implement risk stratification, care coordination, and population-level care for patients in the department by providing clinical background and provider perspectives.
  • Create a positive and supportive environment within the team and across departments.
  • Work with CWH OM to ensure provider availability for patient care and adequate back up for APRNs and PAs.
  • Work with CWH OM to provide clinical input for template changes and productivity goals.
  • Coordinate medical education for the department.
  • Work with HR to set capacity goals for the number of trainees and volunteers in the department and be aware of department trainees and volunteers.
  • In coordination with COO and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), participate in developing the budget for the department and meeting annual budgetary goals.
  • Coordinate Clinic obstetric call coverage for hospital care at St. David's Medical Center.
  • Coordinate comprehensive obstetrical care for patients with maternal-fetal medicine and obstetric hospitalists.
  • Oversee gynecological surgery scheduling for Clinic patients.
  • Oversee staff training and standardization of obstetric and gynecological procedures.
  • Collaborate with other medical departments to ensure reproductive healthcare needs are being met in all relevant departments.
  • Adhere to HIPAA guidelines.


Qualifications

Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) required.

Experience:
  • Minimum of four years' work experience in a clinic or multi-disciplinary setting.
  • Specialized training or experience in providing best practices for reproductive health care (including obstetric-gynecological specialty care).
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records.


Certificate/License:
  • Current license to practice medicine in the State of Texas
  • Drug Enforcement Agency certification
  • Texas Department of Public Safety Controlled Substance registration
  • Board certification in an appropriate medical specialty


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Thorough knowledge of current theory and practice of obstetric and gynecological medicine.
  • Understanding and application of knowledge of healthcare systems.
  • Strong team player with proven leadership and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal, nonverbal, and written communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with persons of varying ages, genders, abilities, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • English fluency, second language preferred.
  • Ability to apply for and maintain core obstetric inpatient privileges.
