With a focus on supporting our Parkland Burnaby refinery, this role will work alongside the Health Safety & Environment and People & Culture teams, report to the Manager, Health & Wellness, and provide non-authoritative leadership to our refinery on-site third-party medical services. Starting Salary: $115,000

The Opportunity:

This position is accountable for the management of Parkland's occupational health programs as well as both occupational and non-occupational disability programs for our western Canada operations. With a focus on supporting our Parkland Burnaby refinery, this role will work alongside the Health Safety & Environment and People & Culture teams, report to the Manager, Health & Wellness, and provide non-authoritative leadership to our refinery on-site third-party medical services. This is an exceptional opportunity to create, change manage, govern, maintain and improve the occupational health programs necessary for injury and illness prevention, management, promotion and education, appropriate to Parkland's diverse workforce.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the case management of both WCB and STD claims for Union and Non-Union employees, including modified duties and return to work programs.
  • Supports the planning, development and implementation of Fit for Duty and Drug & Alcohol programs for Parkland Canada and the Parkland refinery.
  • Manage Parkland's relationship with provincial WCB/WSIB agencies and associated accounts, claim costs, rebates and refunds.
  • Guide the external onsite medical staff (third party) as required to support employees and manage health programs for the Parkland Refinery.
  • Support and collaborate with the industrial hygiene team to review studies internally and with consultants.
  • Manage pre-employment medical evaluations and regulatory testing requirements including respiratory protection and hearing conservation.
  • Plan, develop and implement healthy living programs and initiatives.
  • Manage and maintain confidential health records and case records, acting as the subject matter expert for the Cority health module.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Health & Wellness policies, procedures, programs, standards and safe work practices.

Requirements:
  • An active provincial nursing license as registered nurse (or equivalent).
  • Certification in Occupational Health Nursing.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in an occupational health related role including disability management; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Current knowledge of local, provincial and federal occupational health and safety acts and regulations is needed.
  • Proven ability to effectively lead change management, and navigate competing priorities with excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Certification in Spirometry, substance abuse management is an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills, including MS-Office.
  • Able to professionally deal with confidential information, work with discretion, tact, and good judgment.
  • Ability to travel between various company locations Burnaby Office, Burnaby Refinery, Calgary Office, as required.
