Job Description

The Cloud Architect will be responsible for designing and implementing enterprise-level infrastructure solutions that align with the organization's goals and IT strategy. This role requires expertise in cloud architecture services, architecture best practices, and the ability to manage complex projects across the organization. The Cloud Architect will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration, optimal performance, and scalability of cloud infrastructure, ensuring that the cloud environment supports both current and future business needs.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred.
  • Three (3) plus years in a Database Administrator role required.


Skills and Knowledge
  • Proven expertise in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and related services.
  • Strong understanding of higher education IT needs, including academic and administrative processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks relevant to higher education.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written skills to communicate technical requirements as appropriate to the audience.
  • Ability to work well with members of the ITS-EAS Management Team and ITS staff to provide the leadership and the path necessary to achieve the strategic direction of the University.


Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with institutional leadership to align Oracle Cloud solutions with strategic goals.
  • Assess current IT infrastructure and identify opportunities for migration to Oracle Cloud.
  • Develop comprehensive cloud strategies that address scalability, compliance, and cost efficiency.
  • Communicate, plan and implement Oracle cloud patches and infrastructure related events.
  • Provide strategic support to the EST team as they implement Oracle Cloud Manager for the support of the PS environments.
  • Production support, verify and practice backup recovery.
  • Monitor and optimize the performance of Oracle Cloud applications and infrastructure.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks to ensure seamless user experiences for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Implement scalable solutions to handle peak demands, such as registration periods or major research computations.
  • Design and implement disaster recovery plans using Oracle Cloud's native tools and services.
  • Ensure critical institutional systems are resilient and maintain high availability.
  • Test and validate recovery processes to guarantee minimal impact during disruptions.
  • Act as the primary technical expert for Oracle Cloud-related issues.
  • Provide timely support to address challenges faced by faculty, staff, and students.
  • Maintain documentation of system configurations, changes, and best practices. Instrumental in the migration of legacy systems to Oracle Cloud infrastructure.
  • Establish best practices for data migration, application integration, and system testing.
  • Work closely with academic departments, administrative units, and IT teams (DBA, PeopleSoft administrators, network, security, firewall, etc.) to understand their specific requirements.
  • Provide expert guidance on leveraging Oracle Cloud services to enhance teaching, research, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with other ITS teams to help integrate OCI application into other SU managed entities.
  • Conduct workshops and training sessions to build cloud competency within the institution.
  • Stay updated with the latest Oracle Cloud features and advancements to identify opportunities for innovation.
  • Propose and implement new technologies to support digital transformation initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by regularly reviewing and refining cloud practices.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.
