The mission of the Obstetrics and Gynecologydepartment is to provide the highest quality clinical care in both general andspecialty Obstetrics and Gynecology to Central Virginia. In addition to the clinical mission, thedepartment has the allied goals of providing undergraduate and graduate medicaleducation in the field and advancing the field through basic and clinicalresearch.

Chief Purpose of this position:

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology isseeking candidates to provide specialty care in Maternal-FetalMedicine. This position is designed to provide specialty care in Maternal-FetalMedicine, including labor and delivery coverage, in- and outpatientconsultation, prenatal diagnosis, ultrasound, management of high-riskpregnancy, and performance of specialty specific procedures. The position willinclude participation in student, resident, and fellow education as well as inthe department's clinical research activities.

Position Responsibilities:

Teaching
The faculty member will have teaching responsibilities to includeactively participating in the department's educational activities, withparticular attention to educating students, residents, and fellows in theircore educational objectives in maternal fetal medicine.

Research
The person filling theposition is expected to initiate research projects. They are expected to provide leadership andmentoring to MFM Fellows, Ob/Gyn residents, and medical students engaged inresearch and contribute to scholarly publications/presentations.

Service
Faculty member will serveon departmental, hospital, and university committees as necessary, as well asin a professional capacity in their field. The maternal fetal medicine specialistwill be assigned to committees at the discretion of the division director anddepartment chair.

Clinical
Full participation inthe clinical activities of the maternal fetal medicine division isexpected. Clinical activities are to bedetermined by the Maternal-Fetal Medicine division director but are expected toinclude a combination of obstetric clinics, Ob/Gyn ultrasound, and labor anddelivery coverage. Outpatientresponsibilities may be at VCU Medical Center or off-site at the discretion ofthe chair and division director.

Other
Participate in department and institutional administrative activities asassigned by the division director and department chair.

Required Qualifications:
  • Completion of training in General OB/GYN and Maternal-Fetal Medicine equivalent to ACGME and ABOG accredited programs
  • Eligible for Medical license in Virginia
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Completion of an ACGME accredited OB/GYN residency
  • Completion of an ACGME accredited fellowship training program in Maternal-Fetal Medicine
  • Certification by the American Board of OB/GYN in General OB/GYN and Maternal-Fetal Medicine; candidates who completed their fellowship recently enough that they are not yet eligible to sit for the exam will be considered with the expectation that they take the certification exams at the earliest opportunity
