Description:

The Operations Manager (OM) leads multiple projects simultaneously for USC with the goal of extending their current engagements into new assignments for the company. As such, s/he manages, trains and mentors Project Managers (PMs) and Senior Project Managers (SPMs) for the successful planning, execution and completion of their projects, works across multiple disciplines and industries, must be able to understand his/her clients' business and build credibility quickly with c-suite. The OM manages PMs and SPMs on multiple projects at different client locations, for different clients at the same time.

FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
  • Ensure USC PMs and SPMs are well-prepared, organized and resourced to successfully manage projects through ongoing coaching and follow-up.
  • Assess, evaluate and report the work of the Project Managers to USC's Executive Team (Senior VP of Operations and/or Senior VP Business Development), set up corrective actions as needed.
  • Understand the client's business to design effective processes, organizations, change and learning programs to drive real business benefits.
  • Define client projects undertaken by USC, including scope, goals and deliverables to be managed by PMs and SPMs to support business objectives as defined by project stakeholders.
  • Prepare client deliverables (including requirements, functional designs, future and current state process flows, strategy assessments and proposals) that PMs and SPMs must execute with the help of USC's Project Execution function (Project Consultants and Senior Project Consultants) as well as USC's Executive Team (Senior VP of Operations and/or Senior VP Business Development), set up corrective actions as needed.
  • Review improvement plans developed by project management to ensure it meets business needs, current state processes, organizational structure and areas of concern.
  • Identify project issues and risks as they arise and set up mitigation plans that PMs/SPMs will execute.
  • Serve as a liaison between USC PMs/SPMs and members of the USC Executive Team, including the CEO, Senior VP Operations and others
  • Establish the guidelines and routines for PMs and SPMs to implement (weekly/daily plans) to achieve goals. Conduct quarterly performance reviews with USC Project Managers.
  • Create strong client relationships across all levels of the organization. Work collaboratively with clients to identify additional areas of savings and demonstrate consistent ability to extend projects as continuing needs arise.
  • Leverage client relationships to solicit referrals to generate new business opportunities for USC.

TECHNOLOGY EXPERIENCE:
  • Advanced computer skills, including MS Office Suite/MS Project, Visio, PowerBi and Excel.
  • Must be confident in creating graphs and Paretos
  • Knowledge of Work Order management tools would be an asset
  • Knowledge of CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) would be an asset
  • Fluency in MS Project and or Primavera (P6) would be an asset
  • Fluency in Minitab statistics package would be an asset

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Ability to manage people at all levels, and to develop close inter-working relationships in timeline-driven environments
  • Knowledge of project management practices in a work environment and how to effectively implement them
  • Strong leadership skills, including a history of increasing leadership responsibility and career growth in process improvement
  • Ability to make timely decisions under pressure and respond rapidly to navigate situations that may arise on different projects managed by different Project Managers across multiple locations
  • Logical and analytical problem-solving skills and a rigorous approach to project management to deliver enterprise-level projects
  • Ability to develop a change leadership strategy for Project Managers based on situational awareness of changes and the groups impacted
  • Excellent written and oral communication to present professionally documented accountability
  • Performance driven, adaptable, a self-starter skilled at creating structure in ambiguous environments

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • 10+years in the business arena at supervisory level in the consulting industry, with 5+ years as a manager (10+ direct reports or projects over 20,000 man hours/$1,000,000 budget)
  • Training in a formal process, organization, change, and/or learning improvement methodology at an enterprise level client or employer
  • An undergraduate business-related or MSE degree
  • Experience successfully completing multiple end-to-end projects
  • Broad exposure to different industries, process areas and technologies
  • A positive and winning attitude
  • Proven track record of extending or selling additional project phases for clients
  • Certification in industry process (e.g. SMRP, APICS, CMC, RCM, PMP, etc.) preferred
  • Have a valid driver's license
  • Ability to travel a minimum of 5 nights a week
  • Fluency in multiple languages is an asset

Must be able to spend extended periods of time in-flight and traveling long distances.
