Operations Manager

As our business looks to deliver its ambitious strategy of growth, we are looking for an Operations Manager to join our Operations Team for our Atlas Point location. The successful candidate should have experience successfully leading union and non-union teams, have effective communication skills, and be understanding of situational changes. Needs to set standards and hold accountability to commitments. The candidate must have demonstrated competency of working in a manufacturing environment and adhering to safety and environmental practices. The customer is of utmost importance and the ability to adapt and meet short term requests will be needed.
As part of site leadership, this is a highly visible role reporting to the Site Director. The role oversees 100+ people of various disciplines including, managers, engineers, shift team leaders, and a union workforce.
Successful candidates will be self-motivated and helping create the path forward. This person needs to have their own ideas and help with creating the vision for the site. Ability to provide leadership to team by performing the following: leading organizational change; developing, creating relationships, and putting staff in a position to succeed
What You'll Be Doing:
Key Duties
Oversees and manages day to day operations of a batch facility. Includes helping set and achieve future goals and activities of the facility.
Ensure batch plant strategy supports overall operations and business strategy to achieve financial goals of Croda Inc including a 5-year area strategy plan married with capital and resource plans
Deliver efficient, high quality plant operation supporting of business requirements.
Meet complex production schedule to ensure business inventory targets are met and on-time delivery to customers is > 95%
Ensure cost effective operation driving for lowest unit cost. Drive continuous improvement tools through site teams. Establish and own operating budget
Compliance with all environmental permits, health, and safety regulations
Compliance with corporate and site-specific policies and rules
Continuous improvement of systems to achieve an injury free workplace and a high standard of housekeeping and organization
Compliance with PSM requirements. Completion of hazard studies and action follow-up to ensure highest standards are achieved
Ensure product quality is in compliance with Company goals and objectives and also ISO/GMP regulations
Ensure implementation of new products and processes to ensure best utilization of resources available
Work towards sustainability goals in batch area. Help define energy and waste stream reductions.
Support sustainability projects
Drive and embed a sustainability culture within the organization
Own and execute all sustainability targets to improve (climate, land, and people)
People management and development - goals and objectives, performance management, development reviews
Works cross functionally with Demand Planning, Procurement, Maintenance and QC/QA to achieve production schedule.
Ability to inspire and implement change
Work with Union on area opportunities
Proactively drive site culture to achieve safe and efficient performance
What We are Looking For:
Education:
BS degree in Chemical Engineering preferred or mechanical/electrical engineering
Stable Ops - Preferred
Lean / Six Sigma - Preferred
Communication Skills:
Must have oral & written proficiency in the English language
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills
Work with union personal and contract understanding
Computer Skills:
Computer literacy (Proficient in MS Office)
ASPEN
DCS and PLC understanding
Other Skills:
Ability to inspire and implement change
Track record of successful team leadership
Commercially astute
Organizes, focuses, and prioritizes well
Physical Demands:
Able to walk, stand and sit for a minimum of 8 hours per day
Required to move throughout production areas on uneven surfaces, climb stairs and ladders
Able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
