We are looking for a leader to manage the Optical Payload Lasers & Detector Subsystems Group in the Optical Sensor Components Department. This Group provides laser subsystem design, analysis, and test functions plus focal plane subsystem analysis, detector procurement, and detector/focal plane subsystem test within payload IPTs (Integrated Product Teams) to deliver laser and focal plane subsystems to the LOBs (Lines of Businesses).

As the Optical Payload Lasers & Detector Subsystems Group Manager, you will:
Champion designs for laser and focal plane subsystems in active/passive laser optical payloads
Work closely with Payload IPT leads and Lines of Business leadership to understand mission drivers and key performance parameters
Fold emerging mission trends into current laser subsystem and focal plane subassemblies to ensure a discriminating edge
Execute discrete work for programs as a technical contributor or technical lead, 70% of your time
Led a team of approximately 12 individuals by mentoring, reviewing work products, and providing functional management support, 30% of your time

We are seeking a colleague with strong verbal and written communication skills who can build effective relationships across internal organizations and with customers.

You would typically have a Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science field and 14-20 years of professional experience, a Masters and 12-18 years, or a PhD and 9-15 years.

Basic Qualifications

Skill Requirements:
Proven technical leadership and deep subject matter expertise in LIDAR systems, laser subsystems, or focal plane subsystems
Experience designing, procuring, fabricating and/or testing high TRL (test readiness level) laser subsystems or focal plane array subsystems
Proven technical and leadership abilities within a professional setting in support of major defense, civil, or commercial programs

Security Clearance & Work Authorization requirements:
To meet requirements of the program/customer, this position requires the selected employee to be a U.S. Citizen.
Selected candidates will be required to possess at minimum an Interim Secret clearance prior to starting employment.
Selected candidates will be required to obtain, and maintain, a minimum clearance level of Secret for long-term employment on this program.

Desired skills
Experience in performance modeling, system development, requirements generation, and/or signal and processing for electro-optic/infrared (EO/IR) sensor systems
Experience with remote sensing programs
Experience in developing high reliability components or subsystems for space including writing qualification plans and executing environmental tests
Systems engineering experience in electro-optical hardware development
Hands-on experience in delivering EO/IR hardware/products
Excellent communications skills both verbal and written
Demonstrated ability to drive closure and resolve complex technical issues/challenges
Understanding of Military/DOD design methodology and standards
Experience developing materials for and presented at preliminary and critical design reviews
Strong mentoring skills and experience
A variety of customer experience and exposure in markets such as intelligence, defense, science, and commercial
Master's degree or equivalent experience
Current Top Secret clearance or equivalent
Prior functional management experience leading engineers working on laser subsystems or focal plane subsystems

Ability to work remotely

Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.

Work Schedule Information

Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

National Pay Statement

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Washington or Washington DC is $134,000 - $236,325. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays.
(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.

Premium Pay Statement
