GENERAL SUMMARY:
Facilitates development of evidence-based and clinically relevant content for order sets, protocols and therapy plans to be integrated into the electronic medical record. Ensures that clinical and IT experts internal and external to Bryan Health System are utilized to develop new content for order sets, address requests to revise current order sets and that information is translated into the appropriate electronic format. Understands the clinical and operational impact of changes to the health system and patient care and works with various departmental and information technology (IT) staff, participating in and leading cross-functional teams and collaborating with clinicians, physicians providers, operational and IT resources to resolve issues and process challenges/problems. Accountable for ensuring clinical content meets patient care, quality and regulatory requirements (i.e., Promoting Interoperability, Institute for Safe Medication Practices, Centers for Medicare Services programs and regulations).
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
2. *Develops and maintains the order set and protocol lifecycle processes to ensure timely development, regular multidisciplinary review and implementation.
3. *Works closely with key medical staff and clinical leaders to lead the process of order set and protocol development and revision.
4. Develops and maintains the infrastructure to support this work such as tools for communication, order set revision tracking, order set development guidelines, timing for overall orders review, the process to submit a request and approve order changes, etc.
5. *Demonstrates effective use of information resources, search engines and information management software to gather evidence based information.
6. *Shares current research with appropriate medical staff, clinical leaders and subject matter experts for review and consideration.
7. *Leverages expertise of clinical, physician and IT colleagues to ensure best practices are integrated into order sets and protocols to meet quality and regulatory requirements.
8. Collaborates with IT personnel to accurately translate the desired content and processes into electronic format while understanding the impacts of content and format at multiple care delivery sites
9. Facilitates approval of recommendations within appropriate medical staff and clinical leadership meetings.
10. *Escalates issues, risks and decision making through appropriate chain of command as needed.
11. *Collaborates with IT personnel to leverage technology in standardizing care practices through development of tools (order sets/protocols, etc) and identification of processes (workflow and clinical decision support) that directly improves patient outcomes and regulatory measures.
12. *Works with stakeholders across the organization to effectively communicate changes in processes due to clinical order functionality or content changes within the electronic health/medical record.
13. Provides training to colleagues as needed.
14. *Facilitates change and manages projects through analysis, key end user engagement and consensus building within an interdisciplinary environment.
15. *Develops and tracks process improvement metrics for the work completed by the order set program with the goal of continuous improvement
16. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
17. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
18. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
2. Knowledge of system and change management principles and their application within the healthcare environment.
3. Knowledge of patient care ordering, documentation and the provision of patient care in hospital and outpatient setting.
4. Knowledge of the use of electronic health/medical record in clinical setting.
5. Knowledge of order set and other clinical content decision-making/development.
6. Knowledge of quality and regulatory requirements as related to clinical content, reporting and quality improvement.
7. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
8. Ability to interpret clinical literature and incorporate into clinical content.
9. Ability to work collaboratively with clinicians, physicians, providers, IT and operational staff.
10. Ability to learn and utilize various software programs to organize, prioritize and efficiently complete work assignments.
11. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.
12. Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work projects and manage time to meet deadlines.
13. Ability to network and develop effective working relationships with all co-workers, clinical and nonclinical colleagues.
14. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.
15. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Professional licensure in a medical or allied health area of study, (e.g., nursing, radiology, laboratory, physical therapy, pharmacy, respiratory therapy) required. Bachelor's degree required. Minimum of three (3) years clinical practice, nursing management, quality management or case management experience required. Prior experience facilitating clinical applications or other electronic health record tools required. Project management training/experience desired.
