Position Description

We are seeking a Patent Attorney who will be highly collaborative with a willingness to mentor inventors and assist with documenting inventions, have strong communication skills, and act with a sense of urgency and accountability. The successful candidate will be actively engaging in hands on drafting and prosecuting patent applications in U.S. and foreign jurisdictions and contributing to and conducting IP portfolio strategies and patent assessments.

This position will report to a senior patent attorney and you will work both independently and within the framework of a team. Responsibilities will include:

  • Heavy hands-on involvement in procurement of patents in the US and abroad.
  • Draft and prosecute domestic and international patent applications from start to finish.
  • Conduct inventor and examiner interviews.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of assigned patent portfolios and strategies.
  • Counsel colleagues to understand a patent portfolios' development and scope.
  • Conduct freedom to operate and patentability assessments and communicate such assessments to others.
  • Provide IP support to a broad range of groups including R&D, Manufacturing, Management and Corporate Development and build strong relationships with members within such groups.

Position Requirements

This position requires the following skills and attributes:

  • Active registered member of the USPTO with a successful demonstrated track record.
  • Three or more years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution.
  • A Juris Doctorate and an active member before a State bar.
  • Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Biomedical Engineering degrees.
  • Knowledge of USPTO filing practices and docketing procedures strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal clients at all levels.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and work ethic, ability to act quickly and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Prior engineering experience desired but not required.
