Job Description
Job Title: Pathologist Assistant
Job Specialty: Histology
Job Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Day
Guaranteed Hours: To be determined
Experience: Less than 1 year of broad experience as a Pathologist Assistant is preferred if on-the-job trained
License: Certification or eligible for certification by American Association of Pathologist Assistants required upon hire
Certifications: Certification from American Association of Pathologist Assistants (AAPA) required
Must-Have: Experience with grossing all tissue types
Job Description:
- Perform gross examination, description, and sectioning of surgical specimens in accordance with professional standards and approved protocols.
- Assist with or perform dissection and gross description of autopsies.
- Have sufficient computer skills to accession specimens; additional laboratory-related computer skills are valued.
- Photograph specimens as needed and maintain photography equipment.
- Assist with preparation of frozen sections.
- Report to the Administrative Director of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
- Prioritize physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of those served.
- Deliver high-quality healthcare with exceptional customer service.
- Maintain positive interactions with co-workers and develop a satisfying and enriching work environment.
- Use resources and supplies efficiently to ensure quality and service accessibility.
- Maintain attendance and punctuality per system policy.
- Adhere to the dress code and maintain a neat appearance.
- Ensure confidentiality as outlined in system policies, limiting equipment/computer use to work-related functions.
- Complete tasks within designated timelines and follow employee conduct expectations.
- Identify personal learning needs and seek opportunities for improvement, participating in six hours of education classes per year.
- Maintain professional practice standards and seek assistance when needed.
- Support and participate in performance improvement efforts to enhance and improve services, actively searching for methods to improve customer service or patient care.
- Demonstrate principles of teamwork, act as a resource and mentor to teammates, and assist with team prioritization.
- Address trust issues and work toward establishing an environment of mutual understanding and respect.
- Serve as a positive role model in the delivery of patient care, personal conduct, and appearance.
- Maintain confidentiality in relation to patients and resolve issues through positive problem-solving techniques.
- Demonstrate leadership abilities, supervising assigned staff, and participating in the orientation/training of employees and students.
- Monitor equipment, supplies, and environment to assure safe and timely delivery of patient care.
