ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervise daily activities of the billing, claims, and coders and collections staff. Provide ongoing training and performance evaluations annually or as needed. Ensure staff have access to all necessary resources to complete job functions.
- Manage and upgrade systems and procedures annually or as needed for processing patient billings, insurance eligibility, claims, and accurate coding of patient services to maximize cash flow and minimize expenses.
- Responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing and payment of outside claims for health services, including Purchased Referred Care and Tribal Member Referred Services. Work closely with Third Party Administrator (TPA) to ensure efficient processing and reduce outstanding claims.
- Manage and upgrade systems to actively support Puyallup Tribal members in avoiding collections on their healthcare claims and assist in resolving any claims currently in collections.
- Interpret and apply insurance, billing, coding, and financial laws and regulations to ensure compliance. Stay current with changing laws, regulations, and systems as needed.
- Audit weekly check register for eligibility, referral, accurate payment type, and correct fund.
- Review and approve checks for external claims.
- Review weekly Prescription Benefit Manager (PBM) invoices and monthly Third Party Administrator (TPA) statements and request payment. Reconcile Costco statements with invoices monthly.
- Complete and submit monthly and quarterly statistical, financial, and activity reports.
- Develop and monitor billing, claims, and coding budgets monthly.
- Promptly handle sensitive billing issues and external service-related management conflicts.
- Develop provider training updates annually or as needed in conjunction with the Coding Auditor.
- Review and track overpayments and payer refund requests. Post refunds in the electronic health record system and request refund checks.
- Credential billing providers with Medicare, Medicaid, L&I, and any other commercial payer that PTHA is contracted with.
- Stay current with re-credentialing requirements and facility commercial insurance contracts and updates.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in medical administration, accounting, or related field.
- Current/Active Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification preferred.
- Five (5) years' experience working in a family practice medical billing setting.
- Five (5) years' experience supervising two (2) or more staff.
