The Goodhue County Sheriff's Office is seeking a highly motivated, skilled and experienced law enforcement leader to serve as Patrol Major. This leadership role is critical to maintaining public safety, overseeing daily operations of the patrol division, and ensuring the efficient and effective implementation of law enforcement strategies and policies.
As a senior officer in the Sheriff's Office, the Patrol Major will work closely with other command staff to maintain law enforcement excellence, provide guidance to patrol personnel, and promote community engagement. County employees receive competitive pay and a generous benefit offering. This position is compensated at a Grade 118 and the hiring range is $97,510 - $131,622, annually - depending upon qualifications.

- Leadership & Supervision: Supervise Patrol, Civil/Bailiff/Transport, Four-Seasons and Training Supervisors, and Emergency Response Team (SWAT) commander. Oversee daily operations, policy enforcement, and performance evaluations.
- Policy & Operations: Assist in the development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and budgets. Ensure compliance with Minnesota POST standards.
- Law Enforcement Coordination: Manage patrol functions, traffic enforcement, crime prevention, and emergency responses across the county. Act as the liaison with contract municipalities and school districts.
- Crisis Management: Lead in emergency situations and coordinate disaster response plans, including working with local, state, and federal agencies.
- Personnel & Budget Management: Oversee staff schedules, training, internal investigations, and ensure proper resource allocation and budgeting.
- Community Engagement: Represent the Sheriff's Office in public relations, including media relations and community events.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Associate's degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, or a related field (Bachelor's preferred).
- Experience: Minimum 4 years of supervisory experience at the rank of Sergeant or above.
- Licensing: Current Minnesota POST Peace Officer license.
- Skills: Strong leadership, strategic planning, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage both sworn and non-sworn personnel effectively.
