SUMMARY

The Pediatric Infectious Diseases Physician at the Assistant or Associate level will serve as the Medical Director of Infection Prevention & Control (IP&C) and co-leader of the Antibiotic Stewardship Program in conjunction with the ID Clinical Pharmacist. These activities will constitute 0.5 FTE. The successful candidate will also be integral to the Division of Infectious Diseases & Immunology, and will participate in clinical, academic and teaching activities of the Division.

The Physician will teach fellows, residents and medical students of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, and will engage with internal and external partners including public health authorities, to optimize the health of all children in Connecticut. The Physician will work with a multi-disciplinary team to provide high quality evidence-based care.

The Infectious Diseases Physician will be responsible for performing an array of diagnostic tests and providing consulting services for infants, children and youth with a broad range of issues including, but not limited to, general infectious diseases, travelers seeking medical advice, and infections in special populations, such as immunocompromised patients.

The Physician will advise about appropriate medications, vaccines, and lifestyle adjustments that will contribute to patients' recovery from their disorders and prevent future health issues.

Responsibilities

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide a high standard of clinical care and perform appropriate diagnostic tests and follow-up for children with acute and chronic medical illnesses in in- and outpatient settings
Direct initiatives to improve infection prevention, quality of care, patient safety, interdisciplinary collaboration and health maintenance
Promote antimicrobial stewardship and assist in coordinating the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program
Consult with other physicians and specialists as needed
Complete medical forms and documentation related to patient care in a timely manner
Provide patient advocacy
Make referrals to other agencies and providers, as needed
Participate in a peer-review process
Engage in scholarly activities
Observe, implement, and promote federal regulations as defined by HIPAA and Policies and Procedures
Participate in the Division's on-call schedule
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Degree from an accredited school of medicine required
Successful completion of a pediatric residency program and pediatric infectious diseases fellowship training required
2+ years of experience preferred

Position Specific Job Education and/or Experience
Training in infection prevention and control, and antibiotic stewardship preferred
Experience with quality improvement methodology preferred

LICENSE and/or CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
Must possess current unrestricted license to practice in the State of CT and must be maintained
DEA with Controlled Substance required and must be maintained
Board certification / Board Eligible in Infectious Disease required
