Texas Children's Hospital at the TMC is a state-of-the-art 800-bed facility, including the new Lester and Sue Smith Legacy Tower which houses 6 high acuity operating rooms and 4 Pediatric Subspecialty Intensive Care Units (84 rooms). The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition consists of more than 30 MD/DO faculty, 12 GHN fellows, and 1 transplant hepatology fellow. The recruited pediatric Neurogastroenterologist will join 5 MD/DO faculty with a Neurogastroenterology academic and clinical focus and also multidisciplinary teams which care for children through the aerodigestive program, esophageal achalasia program, gastrointestinal neurostimulation program, Neurogastroenterology/physical therapy program, colorectal program, multidisciplinary abdominal pain program, and rumination program. Integral members of these teams include pediatric surgeons, psychologists, physical therapists, otolaryngologists, pulmonologists, and anesthesiologists. The Neurogastroenterology program features a robust research portfolio that includes both NIH and Foundation-sponsored investigator-initiated studies, multi-center consortia (Gastroparesis Clinical Research Consortium), and numerous industry-sponsored clinical trials. Opportunities for additional Neurogastroenterology related research abound.
Subspecialty tertiary and quaternary care at TCH is concentrated within the TMC. Over 10,000 pediatric gastroenterology outpatient visits are completed at the TMC per year. The ideal applicant should be eligible to be an Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics with an established or aspiring clinical niche within pediatric Neurogastroenterology and motility. Formal training in relevant aspects of Neurogastroenterology in the first year of employment as an instructor may be available for individuals with a serious interest in pediatric Neurogastroenterology but limited clinical experience in this subspecialty area.
Summary
The Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine in partnership with Texas Children's Hospital is seeking a pediatric Neurogastroenterologist to join the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Texas Children's Hospital located at the Texas Medical Center (TMC) Campus. Candidates with training related to Neurogastroenterology procedures (including antroduodenal manometry and colonic manometry) and research expertise in pediatric motility and/or disorders of gut-brain interaction will be given priority. Experience and interest in intestinal rehabilitation is also sought.
