Position Summary Description

Drives tactical directions regarding the plant's performance by directing, planning, analyzing, measuring, and reporting plant objectives and goals with respect to performance monitoring and operational optimization. Participates in all on-site activities to meet system electrical load demands and maintain plant capacity at the highest attainable levels while maintaining the highest safety and environmental standards. Directly accountable for validating performance metrics throughout the plant. Supports management in developing and executing the strategic plans and associated goals and objectives.

WORK LOCATION: Shady Hills Energy Center in Spring Hill, FL.

Essential Functions
  • Directs and reviews performance testing and monitoring programs to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of plant operations and equipment reliability.
  • Leads assessments and recommendations regarding issues that impact plant availability, fuel efficiency, safe and effective operations of equipment, environmental compliance, and cost effectiveness.
  • Reviews engineering test results and makes recommendations regarding required corrective actions, including revisions to process and procedures.
  • Directs and validates plant performance, operational and maintenance issues requiring root cause analysis, the associated corrective actions, mitigative measures, and implementation plans.
  • Directs all performance activities to ensure that applicable environmental rules and regulations applicable to the plant are maintained, including the timely reporting of all environmental reportable events.
  • Determines and implements environmental and regulatory training programs and ensures that applicable required online and classroom trainings are completed by applicable plant staff in a timely manner.
  • Provides back-up day-to-day supervision to Operations Technicians in the proper operation and maintenance of the plant to ensure proper understanding and implementation of procedures for safe, effective, and efficient plant operation and maintenance.
  • Maintains working knowledge and certifications to perform Operations and Maintenance Supervisor responsibilities, as needed.
  • Supports the development of operational and maintenance processes, procedures, and guidelines for approval by the Manager of Operations and Manager of Maintenance. Ensures proper alignment with performance goals and objectives.
  • Provides equipment performance input for project planning forecast.
  • Supports management in the development and management of the capital and O&M plant budget as required.
  • Supports management in the development and execution of strategic goals and objectives.
  • Directs, recommends, and coordinates plant design modifications.
  • May provide presentation to management and board on plant performance matters.
  • Performs NERC Compliance Program roles if/as designated in Seminole's Standard Ownership Matrix (SOM) including ongoing evidence retention in "audit-ready" form as applicable and directed. You should also be familiar with Seminole's Enterprise Internal Compliance Program (ENT-GCD-RGC-EP-054) to further your understanding of Seminole's compliance program and the context of your duties and responsibilities attendant to your designation in the SOM.
  • Performs other duties as applicable to the position or as assigned.


Qualifications and Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or applicable equivalent training required. Ten (10) years of experience, preferably combining modern combined cycle power plant operations, maintenance, and construction/start-up. Progressive responsibility, which should include at least two (2) years of supervisory experience of personnel strongly preferred. Professional Engineer Licensing desirable.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to follow established protective measures including, wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE). Must possess an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.

Working Conditions

Some travel and work outside of normal business hours. May be called on to work extended hours, night, and weekends, as plant conditions and events require. Occasional travel required for training, inspection of other plants or inspection of equipment manufacture or repair in outside facilities. While working in certain areas of the plant there is the potential for exposure to hazards typical of an industrial working environment. Expected to be able to access all areas of the plant and equipment.
