Physical Requirements

This position requires intermittently sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods of time; and performing tasks with repetitive motions (such as typing); and occasionally standing or walking with objects weighing up to 10 pounds; and lifting, pushing, and/or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Also involves some exposure to risk of injury from moving, lifting, or positioning patients, equipment, or materials; and exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes including waste, cuts/punctures, and blood-borne or airborne pathogens.

Shift

Variable; Some evening coverage based on team need while weekends and holidays will be in line with all other team pharmacists.

Job Summary

UK HealthCare is seeking a highly-motivated pharmacist for a clinical pharmacist float position with the decentralized clinical teams at UK HealthCare in Lexington, Kentucky. The clinical pharmacist will provide pharmacy services to the assigned team based on scheduling needs and the training/competency of the individual pharmacist. Covered services may include: emergency general surgery/trauma ICU and floor, internal medicine, cardiovascular ICU and floor, neuroscience ICU and floor, pulmonary ICU, and emergency medicine. The pharmacist will make clinical interventions regarding patient education, clinical pharmacokinetic/anti-coagulation monitoring, drug information, cost-effective care analysis and will provide direct patient care through interdisciplinary rounds. The pharmacist will also have the opportunity to interact with pharmacy residents and students. Being within an academic medical center there may also be opportunities to participate didactic lectures or group facilitations at the college of pharmacy and precepting students. There are a total of three (3) float pharmacists in the group and scheduling is done based on the needs of the teams with the intent of rotating the pharmacists through the various teams and acuity of care appropriate to their training/experience. This includes first shift and evenings with the potential to rotate through a 7on/7off cycle if need arises. The ideal candidate will have graduated from an ACPE-accredited school/college of pharmacy, completed an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency (or equivalent experience) at a minimum and must be eligible for licensure in Kentucky. Completion of an PGY2 residency in critical care, emergency medicine, cardiology or internal medicine is preferred. Board certification in pharmacotherapy or appropriate specialties (or board eligibility) is preferred.

The starting pay for this position was recently adjusted. The minimum salary for this position will now be $112,197/year. All pay rates will be based on candidate's experience.

Strong clinical skills; knowledge of inpatient drug distribution and dispensing; ability to prioritize; excellent communication skills; team mentality; desire to teach; and motivation are required to excel in this position.
