Job Summary:

Organizes and supervises the activities related to In-Patient Pharmacy Services according to hospital policies, standards of practice of the profession, and state and federal laws utilizing substantial understanding of techniques, processes and procedures. Supervises the staff pharmacists, pharmacist interns, pharmacy technicians and clerks. Works in close conjunction with nursing and medical staff by acting as a resource person for various kinds of pharmaceutical data. Runs program(s) with moderate budget/impact.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:
  • Graduate of school of pharmacy: Required
  • Bachelor's Degree: Preferred
  • Two years' technical experience: Preferred
  • Two years' hospital pharmacy experience: Preferred
  • Leadership experience: Preferred


Licenses/Certifications:
  • Pharmacist license in the state of practice: Required
  • All licensures and certifications needed to fulfill the duties required of a Pharmacist at the state level: Required
  • Registered Pharmacist (RPH): Required


Essential Functions:
  • Performs all functions and duties of an Inpatient Pharmacist in compliance with California Law and Pharmacy Practice Standards. Evaluates, processes, distributes and dispenses physicians orders, including unit dose and IV admixture services. Coordinates, manages, reviews and updates IV admixtures practices and policies for best practice and regulatory compliance. Implements drug management strategist for drug shortages with the pharmacy purchasing coordinator.
  • Assumes responsibility for the planning, supervision, coordination and successful execution of all activities related to the pharmacy's operations, as directed. Uses and troubleshoots equipment and software used within the pharmacy. Reviews and revises the Policy and Procedure manual.
  • Supervises work performance of staff pharmacist, pharmacist interns, pharmacy technicians and clerks. Works in close conjunction with nursing and medical staff by acting as a resource person for various kinds of pharmaceutical data. Provides information on medications to physicians and other staff members including availability of new drugs, warnings on currently marketed drugs, incompatibility of certain drugs and contraindications of drugs and other pharmaceuticals.
  • Selects, orientates, supervises, instructs and coaches departmental personnel, as directed. Completes annual performance reviews as needed.
  • Assists with quality assurance monitoring, data collection and continual accreditation preparedness. Assists in the development of the annual department budget. Initiates and implements quality improvement for the department. Individuals experiencing exposed rashes, sunburn, weeping sores, conjunctivitis, active respiratory infections or other communicable disease, or those wearing cosmetics, nail polish, or artificial nails shall be excluded from the ISO Class 5 and ISO Class 7 compounding areas until their conditions are remedied.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
