Functions of Position:

1. Read and properly interpret physician's orders.

2. Compound and dispense medications correctly.

3. Supervise pharmacy technicians.

4. Assist in maintaining pharmacy inventory at appropriate level.

5. Provide input to total pharmacy operation including Q.A. activities.

6. Provide medication information to physicians and other health care professionals.

7. Review written prescriptions to ensure the prescription does not result in overdose or toxicity, or other hazard if filled as prescribed.

8. Establish controls and monitors narcotics and other controlled substances at all times.

9. Perform any other duties as assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Minimum B.S. in Pharmacy, or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from U.S. College of Pharmacy, or certification by the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee (FPGEC), as required by the Missouri Board of Pharmacy.

LICENSE: Current Missouri Pharmacist license issued by the Missouri Board of Pharmacy.

EXPERIENCE: Hospital pharmacy experience preferred, but any pharmacy experience important.

SPECIAL:

PATIENT CONTACT: Must have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.

TYPING: Able to type accurately.

MACHINE OPERATION: Calculator, copy machine, and computer.

HAZARDS: May prepare chemotherapy admixtures and work with toxic chemicals

PHYSICAL:

STANDING: Will spend majority of shift standing.

WALKING: Considerable amount of walking throughout entire hospital.

LIFTING: Must have ability to lift up to 35 pounds.

VISUAL: Must have the ability to read doctor's orders, medication package inserts, and medication names and strengths.

HEARING: Must have the ability to receive and understand phone calls.
