Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide pharmacy services in accordance with federal laws, laws of the State of Texas, Joint Commission Medication Management standards, the MTF Formulary, and the MTF Pharmacy policies and procedures.
- Provide information relating to pharmaceuticals to the MTF patients and clinic practitioners, as requested. Pharmaceutical expert and pharmacy consultant to healthcare providers.
- Assure that drugs are stored properly and that adequate records are maintained to include records of controlled substances classified as such by The Controlled Substance Act (Title II of the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970) and/or those drugs designated by the MTF commander as locally controlled drugs.
- Store, secure, dispense, remove and document the removal of outdated drugs in accordance with The Joint Commission standards and state requirements.
- Fill prescriptions written by the MTF providers and process through CHCS.
- Dispense medications with the proper patient counseling on side effects, indication, contraindications, precautions, warnings, drug interactions, and consumer education.
- Comply with the Controlled Substances Act of 1970 (21 U.S.C. 801 et seq),and be responsible for the security of drug therapy from the time of receipt until dispensing from the Pharmacy to the user.
- Dispense only drugs, medications, and devices approved by the FDA.
- Neither requisition, purchase, store, dispense, nor administer investigational drugs as defined in AR 40-2, Army Medical Treatment Facilities General Administration, Chapter 7.
- Assist with technical supervision of work performed by pharmacy technicians.
- Maintains professional conduct when dealing with patients, staff and co-workers. Maintains patient information in accordance to MTF and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) policy.
- Participates in clinical education programs and in clinical staff quality improvement functions as prescribed by Chief, Department of Pharmacy.
- Attend periodic meetings of department staff to review and evaluate the care and treatment provided to patients.
- Comply with the MTF quality control program and the standing operating procedures of the MTF.
- Participate in clinical and quality review processes as determined by hospital policy.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years of retail or hospital pharmacy experience within the last two years.
- Bachelor's degree in pharmacy. Graduate from a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE).
- Be licensed as a Pharmacist with a current valid, full and unrestricted license in one of the 50 states in the United States, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rice, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands, which must be maintained in a current status throughout the term of the contract.
- Must have and maintain current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification during the contract period of performance. Certifications must be obtained through an American Heart Association and/or Red Cross approved training program.
- Must be a US Citizen.
