SUMMARY
Oversees the operations of pharmacy services within the organization's outpatient dispending pharmacy. The pharmacist collaborates with staff across the organization to ensure patient safety and support a culture of continuous quality improvement. Responsibilities include maintaining compliance with USP 797 & USP 800 standards, managing appropriate inventory levels of medications and supplies, and preparing medications for dispensing to patients. This is an hourly, non-exempt position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adheres to established goals and objectives for patient pharmacy dispensing services.
- Ensures compliance with standards of practice from accreditation organizations
- Develops and maintains a system and program of performance improvement.
- Seeks innovative ways to reduce or contain costs while ensuring quality services.
- Collaborates with the billing department to ensure appropriate charging and capture of rendered services.
- Consults with medical practitioners on prescription drugs, patient reactions and errors.
- Dispenses prescribed medications in a healthcare facility setting.
- Performs routine administrative tasks necessary for the efficient operation of the patient pharmacy.
- Maintains proper storage and security conditions for the inventory, including, but not limited to, hazardous medications, look-alike/sound-alike (LASA) drugs, and controlled substances.
- Prepares medications with accurate labeling.
- Cleans and maintains equipment and work areas to ensure a safe and functional environment.
- Orders, stocks, and counts all inventory, utilizing the Nucleus to its fullest capabilities.
- Communicates pertinent drug and medical supply information to clinical team members, including drug and equipment recalls, shortages and supply issues.
- Prepares for dispensing and administration various medications per provider orders according to established protocol, policy and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree or an advanced degree in pharmacy and is licensed to practice.
- Experienced registered pharmacist.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a Joint Commission accredited facility.
- Working knowledge of sterile environment (biohazard safety cabinet) procedures, including using proper personal protection equipment (PPE).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Working knowledge of sterile techniques and special procedures that are applicable to work performed.
- Working knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering routine and special treatments to patients.
- Working knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene and basic health and safety precautions applicable for work in a clinic setting. Working knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions.
- Able to document and communicate pertinent information.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of standing and bending.
- Occasionally required to move up to 15lbs at times.
