JOB SUMMARY:
The Pharmacy Automations & Clinical Informatics Pharmacist will report directly to the Executive Director of Pharmacy. He/she shall be responsible for overseeing, supporting and optimizing current and future pharmacy automations as well as coordinating, planning and implementing projects that support the overall improvement of pharmacy automation and the electronic health record (EHR) at all pharmacy service areas. He/she shall oversee, assist and maintain the medication related components within the CPOE system, smart pump technology, automated dispensing cabinets, carousel technology, safety surveillance software, IV workflow software and other systems or future systems that will interface with the pharmacy department for operational efficiency. He/she shall actively engage in and participates in the development of workflows, system configuration, change documentation, optimization and testing needed to support an optimal EHR across all pharmacy services through a collaborative and interactive relationship with the hospital's IT Department.
Responsibilities
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES / CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinates and serves as a liaison between pharmacy and IT to implement, revise, and test t new features and/or modifications of existing features within the EHR Oversees and maintains the optimal functioning of all current and future pharmacy automation such as but not limited to automatic dispensing cabinets, IV workflow system, carousel machines, pre-packager, auto-label, and smart pumps. Oversees and coordinates the on-going maintenance, testing, support and optimization of all pharmacy systems and EHR Develops and documents the internal procedures for applications and equipment utilized within the department of pharmacy Develops and maintains pharmacy downtime manual that provides clarity to the procedures that must be adhered to if any pharmacy application is not functioning. Maintains and provides analysis of data and performance improvement projects within the department as related to the use of technology Specializes in the medication process, from ordering to administration, to be able to collaborate with health system clinical pharmacists, non-pharmacist clinicians, providers, Information Technology (IT) and others as appropriate in the design of the EHR, order sets, therapy and treatment plans and to provide clinical decision-making support. Presents options for best practice with particular emphasis placed on understanding and managing the impact of changes in clinical practice and technology within clinical settings Supports pharmacists as the resource for system changes related to medication ordering and clinical decisions support. In collaboration with IT pharmacy analysts, may provide assistance, and support to providers and clinicians as deemed necessary. Participates in the management of projects directly related to applications or other large projects as designated by department management Participates in developing and delivering communication for all upgrades/ changes and disseminates to pharmacists and/or providers/clinical staff (as appropriate) Works collaboratively with users at various levels of the organization to determine operational needs and information processing options Performs continual assessment of available application enhancements and requirements to facilitate continued improvements in software capability Ensures optimal operation of all pharmacy automations and coordinates all necessary maintenance Serves a liaison for pharmacy with automation vendors and oversees all new software upgrades with the support of IT as necessary Coordinates across required teams to support application implementation, upgrades and maintenance where applicable. This includes but is not limited to: Software installations (including routine updates/fixies), product upgrades, patches, enhancements, customizations, and new version releases Interface requirements identification to support build by the interface team to then allow coordinated testing of the interface between applications Working with the server team to coordinate downtime to allow for routine server maintenance Provides training of new employees and current employees on all pharmacy applications and their related downtime procedures Provides support for IT related tasks for 340B compliance such as data feed integrity to software vendors, drug formulary build that support appropriate NDC capture Works in collaboration with the Director, 340B & Pharmacy Business to maintain appropriate pharmacy charge master Works in collaboration with the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist- Oncology to address any EHR related changes, testings, modifications and requests

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree preferred
- Licensed pharmacist in the state of Connecticut
- Three to five years of hospital experience required
- Must have a strong knowledge of pharmacy automations and technology
- Prior experience as a pharmacy informatics is preferred. Experience with order set development and clinical decision support processes preferred.
