Pharmacy Manager

Job Summary:
The manager of pharmacy is responsible for overseeing all medication procurement, storage, and preparation in the health system or organization. The manager of pharmacy ensures that the pharmacy provides optimal services; facilitates safe medication use; meets all legal, accreditation, and certification requirements; and complies with all applicable policies, procedures, codes, and standards of the organization.

Duties:
  • Plans and implements services, programs, and processes designed to ensure safe and effective drug therapy outcomes while meeting the needs of the business unit's external and internal customers based on system and business unit goals and objectives, consistent with system Mission and Values.
  • Plan and budget for all department operational costs, provide expense projections for approval, understand and report ledger and productivity variances.
  • Actively participates as a member of the System Pharmacy Services leadership team.
  • Assures that an ongoing process for monitoring and evaluating the quality and effectiveness of the services is in place and that identified opportunities for improvement are implemented using system recognized process improvement tools. Activities to enhance the quality of services will be reported through appropriate channels as required.
  • Ensures that the appropriate level of professional and technical staff is maintained to provide the pharmaceutical services. Ensures all pharmacy professional and technical staff are adequately trained and competent to perform their clinical and patient care responsibilities. This includes competencies to safely use hospital equipment and technology, comply with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensures the appropriate level of clinical services are provided. Participates in the goal setting for clinical services and ensures the resources are available and competent to provide these services.
  • Ensures the pharmacy services provided meet the standards and regulations of a variety of regulatory and accrediting bodies, including among them, State Board of Pharmacy, DEA, The Joint Commission, Michigan Department of Public Health, Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC), and others, as they apply. Ensures all licenses for the service locations and staff are current and in good standing with the agencies. Maintains ability to serve as responsible pharmacist or a resource for the responsible pharmacist for state and federal licensing.
  • Serves as an active member of the business unit's leadership team in support of business unit goals, objectives, and other initiatives. Keeps business unit leadership (matrix) informed on key performance measures and matters of importance.

  • Is punctual and dependable; reports to work as scheduled; fulfills on-call obligations when necessary; absenteeism and tardiness are within policy guidelines
  • Provides courteous, cooperative, and timely service to patients, visitors, and staff members; demonstrates good oral and written communication.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Education: Pharm.D. degree
Years of Experience: Three years within Pharmacy services
License: Must be a registered pharmacist, licensed in good standing in the state of practice

Physical Requirements:
Personal Protective Equipment: Will wear appropriate PPE when compounding nonsterile, sterile and hazardous products
Physical Demands: Must be able to lift light materials. Non-material handling of continuous sitting and reaching; frequent standing; occasional squatting, kneeling, walking, and stairs. Must be able to move about and between workstations.
