Overview
The Senior Director of Pharmacy Operations will be responsible for leading pharmacy operations with a focus on financial stewardship, medication safety, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance. You will drive standardization through technology, data, and automation, ensuring optimal medication utilization and supply chain efficiency. This leadership role also involves overseeing talent management, supporting the development of a high-performing pharmacy team, and ensuring the delivery of top-notch pharmacy services. The Senior Director operations will directly oversee the acute care division while supporting system-wide initiatives that enhance patient outcomes, operational excellence, and pharmacy standardization across the organization.

What You Will Do
Lead with Vision: Develop and execute the strategic plan for pharmaceutical services and medication use across acute care facilities and affiliated outpatient locations. Collaborate with pharmacy leaders, hospital administration, physicians, and key stakeholders to align strategies with organizational goals.
Build High-Performing Teams: Oversee the recruitment, training, and development of pharmacy staff, ensuring a balanced workload across all acute care pharmacies. Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and care.
Drive Financial Performance: Take charge of budgeting, resource allocation, and cost-containment strategies for the acute care division in collaboration with key stakeholders. Ensure financial stewardship while maintaining high standards of service.
Focus on Quality and Outcomes: Lead initiatives to monitor and improve quality metrics and patient outcomes in the acute care division. Work closely with quality leads and pharmacy leaders to ensure performance expectations are met and exceeded.
Innovate and Improve Operations: Design and implement strategies to enhance pharmacy operations through technology, process improvement, and automation across the health system. Strive for continuous operational excellence and efficiency.
Optimize Drug Supply Chain: Manage vendor partnerships and drug supply chain operations, including inventory management and purchasing strategies, to ensure timely and cost-effective medication availability.
Champion Medication Safety: Provide visionary leadership for medication safety programs, ensuring alignment with national best practices. Partner with clinical, operational, and administrative teams to promote a culture of safety throughout the system.
Ensure Compliance and Standardization: Create and manage programs to ensure the standardization of pharmacy policies and compliance with all legislative, regulatory, and accreditation standards across the health system.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Pharmacy (Required)
- Masters degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or Public Health (Preferred)
Experience:
- 5 years of pharmacy experience (Required)
- 3 years of pharmacy leadership experience OR ASHP PGY-2 Health System Pharmacy Administration & Leadership Residency experience plus 2 years of leadership experience (Required)

- Licensed Pharmacist Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) within 60 days (Required)
- 340B University On-Demand certification within 180 days (Required)
- Advanced 340B Operations Certificate (Apexus) within 2 years (Preferred)
- Board Certification in Pharmacy Specialties upon hire (Preferred)
