POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages pharmaceutical supplies for the pharmacy for neonatal through adult patients, subject to JCAHO, OSHA, Medicare/Medicaid standards, and Texas State Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations. Provides leadership in the purchase of pharmaceuticals to ensure that contracts and best prices are purchased throughout the pharmacy departments. Responsibilities encompass coordination of purchases through the pharmacy wholesaler, ensuring that correct prices are loaded and executed for pharmacy purchases. Oversight of purchasing programs to assure adherence to UH Purchasing and Integrity policies. Oversight of Pyxis and floor stock systems and deliveries of drugs to patient care areas. Oversight of controlled substance storage and distribution policies and procedures, including procedures for security and policies for automated systems. Responsibility for keeping controlled substance records, taking inventory, theft and loss reports, and reconciling records. Policies and procedures for segregating and destroying outdated or quarantined drugs and procedures for monitoring shortages and responding to drug recalls. Assistance with oversight of 340B programs to assure compliance with the 340B rules. Assists Manager for pharmacoeconomic programs/340B compliance to assure compliance with Office of Pharmacy Affairs rules and regulations
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Licensure to practice pharmacy in the State of Texas is required. Five (5) years of experience in clinically oriented hospital pharmacy is required. Leadership skills and a strong computer systems orientation are preferred. The capability of developing computer programs to facilitate tracking, purchasing, and data collection and create shelf labels is required. The ability to work with word processing and spreadsheet programs is preferred.

Must be licensed by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy
