Description:

Control Risks is seeking a Physical Security Designer to support an expanded design practice area in North America. The designer will prepare and review design drawings and associated files for electronic and non-electronic physical protection systems.

The successful candidate will possess significant experience and strong knowledge of security design for facility upgrades, new construction projects, and project delivery processes; including associated building and safety codes, design standards and related industry guidelines.

Tasks and responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Prepare design documents (existing conditions reports, design programming, basis of design, equipment specifications, equipment schedules, 30-60-100% drawings, as-built drawing reviews) using appropriate design applications.
  • Teach and mentor non-designer security and risk management professionals to effectively support design programming and security design requirements development.
  • Support quality review of internal and sub-contractor design documents.
  • Periodically perform on-site physical security assessments in support of other markets' risk assessment projects; help translate applicable assessment recommendations into design requirements.


Requirements

Knowledge and experience
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering (civil, structural or electronics engineering) and 5+ years of relevant work experience (e.g., design, construction, etc.).
  • OR Bachelor's degree in a security related field with 5+ years of experience in electronics engineering and/or physical protection systems design (electronic and non-electronic).
  • OR High School diploma and 7+ years of relevant work experience (e.g., physical protection systems design (electronic and non-electronic)).
  • Relevant professional registration(s) and/or certifications, one or more of the following: Certified Electronics Technician (CET), Certified Electronics Engineering Technician (CEET), Certified Electronic Systems Technician (CEST), Engineer in Training (EIT), Professional Engineer (PE), Structural Engineer (SE) Physical Security Professional (PSP), Certified Security Project Manager (CSPM).
  • Significant experience using applications and software for designing electronic physical protection systems: access control, intrusion detection, video surveillance, duress, emergency communications, etc.; and non-electronic protection systems: perimeter fencing, CPTED, vehicle barriers, etc. Demonstrated proficiency with two more of the following: AutoCAD LT for 2D security layout designs, BIM tools (such as REVIT), Bluebeam, SketchUp.
  • Experience interpreting and implementing U.S. and other North American building and life safety codes and standards in design projects and design document reviews.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio).
  • Experience communicating technical information to technical, non-technical and senior-level personnel.
  • Familiarity with design document file systems and knowledge management protocols.
  • Knowledge of and experience with design and construction management processes and phases. Experience with security project management.
  • Understanding of hostile vehicle design studies and models; and blast design studies and models.
  • Native-level fluency in English required; proficiency in other Americas languages (Spanish, Portuguese, French) is advantageous.

The base salary range for this position is $105,000-$130,000 per year. Exact compensation offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
