Job Summary
The Physical Therapist is a professional member of the health care team who is responsible for evaluating, planning, and coordinating individual patient care for patients of all ages. Physical Therapists provide patient treatment to improve range of motion, pain, strength, balance, and mobility along with other functional tasks for overall independence.
Qualifications
Education:
A Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy is required from an APTA accredited program. Must be licensed or eligible to be licensed in the State of Indiana. Must be eligible and/or passed the National Physical Therapy Examination. CPR certification required.
Training:
3-6 months on the job training required. CPR training if not previously obtained.
Experience:
None required, six months to one year preferred. (At least one (1) year of clinical experience for home care, or has demonstrated the skill set/experience needed to provide home care therapy)
Job Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of department policies and procedures, and the ability to perform patient evaluation, treatment, and documentation. A thorough knowledge of physical therapy is required with the ability to make independent decisions regarding patient care/treatment. Knowledge of universal precautions and proper body mechanics is required. Successful completion of competencies identified for this position. Competence in equipment utilized in patient treatment.
Performance Requirements
Responsibility for:
Evaluation and provision of physical therapy to patients. Documentation of the evaluation and treatment provided. Provide patient, family, and staff education. Assist in the supervision of physical therapist assistants, rehab aides, students, and the orientation of new employees. Provide direction and decision making regarding program development and departmental policies/procedures. Communication of progress to patients, physicians and appropriate staff. Rotation of weekends and holidays is required.
Physical Demands:
Walks, sits, and stands intermittently. Stooping, bending and lifting are required with moderate physical effort. Proper body mechanics required for moving and lifting of patients.
Special Demands:
Competency, tact, and patience in communicating with patients, families, physicians, staff, and other personalities is critical. Providing in-services to staff on new skills obtained may be required. May be asked to participate in 90 Day teams, case conferences, and rounding within the hospital and Rehab Department.
