POSITION SUMMARY: The physical therapist will organize and implement specific treatment procedures/protocols for individual clients according to the principles and practices of physical therapy. The therapist will collaborate with the interdisciplinary treatment team. The therapist will provide services including treatment, planning, implementation, education, documentation, and communication for the purpose of assisting the clients to achieve their goals, optimal functional level, and improved quality of life in a multitude of settings.
RELATIONSHIPS: The physical therapist reports to the Rehab Services Director and services customers to include patients, patients' families, physicians, therapy department employees, and hospital employees.

PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

EDUCATIONAL/SKILLS REQUIRED:
The physical therapist must be a graduate of an accredited physical therapy school, successfully complete the National Certification Examination for Physical therapist, possess a current OK Physical Therapist license or be eligible via temporary license, and qualify for malpractice coverage.
EXPERIENCE:
More than one year is preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The following physical/mental demands are required to be a physical therapist at CAH, however, some of these requirements may have to be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. (Note: occasional=33%,frequent=66%,continuous=100%)

PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintaining accurate and timely documentation of care/treatment and determining appropriate charges according to CAH policies and procedures.
- Meeting Medicare standards, risk management standards, and all federal and state regulations.
- Adhering to all policies and procedures of CAH
- Directing and assisting clients in therapeutic regimens while delegating routine care to support staff as appropriate.
- Administering therapy services as outlined in the treatment plan and as approved by the physician.
- Incorporating safety, infection control, and emergency procedures into treatment as necessary.
- Modifying the treatment plan and goals according to patient status.
- Ensuring patients receive re-assessment as necessary.
- Communicating with physicians and team members concerning patient progress.
- Seeking input from patients regarding quality of care.
- Recommending, providing, or adapting assistive devices to support patients' functional outcomes.
- Providing specific training in the use, care, and application of assistive devices for patients, family members, and /or staff members as needed.
- Educating the client, family, or other staff members on goals to ensure maximal carryover of treatment programs.
- Communicating with other team members to establish a total rehabilitative program for the patient as necessary.
- Establishing individual client schedules in conjunction with other patients and staff.
- Participating in discharge planning and team meetings.
- Ensuring continued professional development through participation in hospital in-services and continuing education.
- Attending and participating in staff meetings and family/team conferences.
- Participating in department program development projects.
- Maintaining a clean and professional appearance in the work area.
- Demonstrating initiative in assisting other staff members.
- Participating in community events to promote rehabilitative services, the hospital, and health and wellness.
- Conducting and participating in training medical and nursing staff in therapy techniques and objectives.
- Supporting continuous quality improvement efforts.
- Completing assigned projects/reports on time.

- In an 8-hour day, the employee must be on their feet walking, standing, and/or positioning for 5-7 hours per day.
- Occasionally shift, lift, and transfer a minimum of 50# and apply a minimum of 60# of push/pull force.
- Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, kneeling, reaching above shoulder height, and pushing/pulling.
- Employee must possess enough visual acuity to read fine print from articles, computer, print-outs, physicians' notes, insurance cards, and documents.
- Employee must be able to speak clearly and distinctly enough to communicate effectively and be understood by patients, employees, physicians, and the public.
- Employee must have access to independent, reliable transportation to make home visits as needed.
