Job Title: Physical Therapist
Job Specialty: Outpatient Physical Therapy
Job Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: 8-hour day shift, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM, 5x8 Hr Days
Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
Experience: Previous work experience providing direct patient care in outpatient, inpatient, or inpatient rehab unit preferred
License: Physical Therapist license in state of employment required or Physical Therapist license from a participating state in the National Licensure Compact
Certifications: Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association required
Must-Have: Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy required; Master's or Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy preferred
Job Description:
- Evaluate patients presenting or referred for physical therapy by completing initial evaluations within department protocol time standards.
- Apply appropriate diagnostic and prognostic testing for musculoskeletal, neurological, and neuromuscular conditions.
- Perform standardized testing, including special tests, to determine the level of disability and track outcomes over the patient care experience.
- Conduct best practice and evidence-based therapeutic interventions to address the unique rehabilitation needs of each patient.
- Establish appropriate treatment plans with measurable and attainable goals in collaboration with patients, families, and healthcare team members, including discharge planning.
- Select and implement therapy activities per the plan of care to ensure that patient, family, and therapy goals are met.
- Assess individual limitations and capabilities, utilizing available resources effectively.
- Teach patients skills and techniques required for participation in physical therapy, adapting to their learning styles.
- Consult with rehabilitation team members to select the most appropriate activity and/or program for individual patients based on needs and capabilities.
- Develop and modify treatment plans, setting specific goals and activities based on the patient's current level of function.
- Communicate effectively with all patients, families, staff, physicians, and other stakeholders about physical medicine and rehabilitation services.
- Document all patient care activities, including evaluations, progress notes, and treatment records, adhering to standards of practice and regulatory/third-party payer requirements.
- Prepare patient schedules, billing charges, and other reports per medical records procedure, completing documentation timely.
- Utilize descriptive, behavioral terms using proper grammar, approved abbreviations, and medical terminology in all documentation.
- Capture billing charges accurately by documenting ongoing status, interventions, patient responses, and outcomes.
- Participate in personal, professional, and program development by attending department in-services and meetings and sharing professional expertise.
- Assist in training physical therapy and physical therapist assistant students and other hospital personnel.
- Act as a resource for new staff and co-workers by sharing information and providing education.
- Adhere to the professional code of ethics and all accreditation and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrate effective time management; prioritize workload and meeting productivity requirements.
- Adapt to rapidly changing technologies, policies, regulations, census, and staffing needs through priority setting and flexibility.
- Demonstrate flexibility by being willing to float to other areas or sites and work flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, and evenings, as necessary.
- Be aware that floating may be required within sixty (60) miles of the original assignment location or identified float zone. Float assignments may include duties outside of original assignment job requirements in accordance with policy.
