Description:
The Physician Assistant provides quality, patient-centered orthopedic spine care under the direction of an assigned orthopedic spine surgeon who serves our Tampa and Wesley Chapel, FL locations. Assists physician as dictated by clinical and surgical schedules and may also serve as an interventional physiatrist. This position is subject to PTO Blackout the last week of each December.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assesses patient history, performs physical exams, conducts post-operative follow ups, determines diagnoses, forms treatment plans, and assists in orthopaedic surgical procedures of the spine and neck.
- Evaluates and formulates treatment plans for common orthopedic spine conditions under the supervision of an attending orthopedic physician.
- Reviews diagnostic studies, procedures, and consultations commonly required in the assessment of orthopedic spine patients including but not limited to: suture removal, incision integrity and drainage, and interpreting radiology studies including X-Rays, MRIs, and CT scans of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine.
- Assists surgeon in the operating rooms of local credentialed hospitals and outpatient surgery centers.
- Conducts hospital rounds and subsequent incision checks and follow ups with patients.
- Administrative Items:
- Refers patients as needed to appropriate settings such as hospital emergency rooms and other outpatient facilities. In the event that consultation with protocol physician is needed, telephone contact may be made.
- Ensures operating room coverage as a multi-surgeon practice and communicates with office support staff on clinic schedules.
- Maintains active licensure, certifications, and continuing education requirements to meet credentialing requirements in all affiliated facilities.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- NCCPA Certification with unencumbered medical license from Florida Board of Medicine
- Completion of a two-year accredited physician assistant program (two years of undergraduate study) plus two years of clinical training following completion of PA program
- State accreditation based on certifying exam
- Able to reliably travel with assigned physician between Tampa and Wesley Chapel
- Exercises professional judgment regarding consultation with supervising physicians concerning appropriate treatments
- Ability to effectively understand, follow, and communicate oral and written instructions in English. Must read, write, and speak English fluently to ensure clear work-related communication and patient safety
- Able to tolerate prolonged periods of standing, walking, moving, and frequent exposure to chemicals, bloodborne pathogens, and patient bodily fluids
