Description:

The Corewell Health West Medical Group in Grand Rapids, Michigan offers an excellent opportunity for a full-time board certified Psychiatrist to lead in the role of Division Chief. Reporting to the system behavioral health department chief vice president, the division chief leads all sections within the adult division. This leader will guide teams in our ambulatory, hospital-based, and telepsychiatry practices.

As division chief, you would maintain a clinical practice and have dedicated time to lead your team while partnering with the director of operations on division strategy. The ideal candidate has 3 to 5+ years of experience and has practiced within a sizeable heath system.

This important position leads the following sections within the division:
  • Psychiatry (Physicians & Advanced Practice Providers, inclusive of the Consult Liaison team)
  • Psychology
  • Psychotherapy
  • Addiction


Qualifications: MD/DO, BC/BE Psychiatry, 3-5+ years of leadership experience preferred, Michigan Medical License (ability to obtain)

    Established & achieves annual volume targets in respect to encounters, wRVUs, and new patient visits, or other growth targets that may be established
    Ensure that barriers to physician and mid-level practitioner and associates' productivity are minimized
    Collaborate with executive leadership to plan, design, develop and implement strategic and annual facilities plans
    Collaborate with executive leadership to plan, design, develop and implement annual marketing plan for the Medical Group
    Ensure leadership of physician recruiting and medical staff development plan for the Division in support of the health care workforce needs of the communities served by the Medical Group
    Strategic Planning and Implementation
    Participate in development of an annually updated Department strategic plan. This plan should describe enhanced program reputation and growth, and unique, innovative approaches to the achievement of superior quality, service, safety and financial outcomes.
    Lead the development of a plan for adequate resources to achieve the short term and long term strategic goals and objectives of the Department/program, including growth and new program development
    Development of research goals and implementation plan including integration with clinical initiatives
    Support, as directed, recognition for the program through the attraction or development of regionally and/or nationally recognized physician clinicians, teachers, researchers and program innovators
  • Quality, Safety and Clinical Innovation
    Ensure that the Division meets federal and state regulatory requirements, as well as accreditation standards
    Ensure that the Division meets all payer contract requirements in respect to quality incentives and obligations
    Ensure that the Division evaluates and improves the performance of its professional staff and care teams compared to current standards of care of the community and of the professional societies
    Ensure that the Division develops and sustains a culture of safety, and establishes safety as an system property
    Plan, develop and implement the Division's Annual Plan for Quality, Safety and Clinical Innovation, in support of the Medical Group's Annual Plan
    Lead the implementation of initiatives in evidence-based medicine and the incorporation of the methods of safety science into patient care practices, engaging all staff, especially physicians and nurses
    Development of People
    Develop and implement a Division Annual Plan for physician leadership development
    Contribute to the Professional Standards Committee's annual plan for training and development of the Medical Group's associates
    Implement a formal periodic performance evaluation of the Division's professional staff in alignment with the Medical Groups Professional Standards Committee and the Medical Staff of the appropriate Hospital
    Ensure the participation and guidance of the physician leadership of the Division in the management of performance of the associates
    In collaboration with the Finance Committee of the Board and its subcommittees, ensure equitable annual compensation of the professional staff of the Division in their fulfillment of the clinical, administrative, teaching and research missions
    Collaborate with the Department Chief and Academic Chair in the management of physician performance to ensure individual physician productivity, clinical quality, positive patient perception, appropriate resource utilization, adherence to the group's ethical and legal standards, appropriate relationship with colleagues and staff, and (as appropriate) involvement in teaching and research activities.
  • Patient Service and Perception of Care
    Ensure the Division adopts robust measurements of patients' perception of care and services, in alignment with the Medical Group, and that the Division achieves annual performance goals for patients' perception of care
    Finance
    In collaboration with the Board and the executive team, establish the Five Year Forecast, and Annual Plan of financial performance goals of the Division
    Achieve the Five Year Forecast and Annual Plan goals of the Division through expense management and optimum revenue cycle management
    In collaboration with the Finance Committee, ensure optimum management of compliance and risk
  • Academic and Faculty Affairs
    If requested by the Academic Chair of the Department,
    Ensures an appropriate clinical learning environment for the training of medical students, residents, or fellows
    Participates in, or supports the participation of the Division's professional staff in, faculty development programs of the Department or the MSU College of Human Medicine


Qualifications

  • Required Doctorate


  • At least four years experience in a medical group setting, medical administration, with knowledge of medical business practices, organization dynamics and a desire for greater influence in the building of a multi-specialty group practice. Required


  • LIC-Physician (MD) - STATE_MI State of Michigan required Or
  • LIC-Osteopathic Physician (DO) - STATE_MI State of Michigan required
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association required Or
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross required
