Position Summary: Provides culturally competent, compassionate, and high-quality patient care services to patients in support of childhood healthcare needs. Diagnoses patients through the use of appropriate tests, interpreting test results, and analyzing patient history. Provides high quality treatment by developing treatment plans and prescribing medication appropriate for each patient and condition. Maintains timely and accurate medical documentation. Assists in the supervision of medical staff within the department to ensure efficient clinical operations.

Critical Tasks:

  • Conducts routine check-ups on patients within the pediatric clinic in order to monitor and assess patient health conditions and discover possible issues.
  • Provides comprehensive examinations and ancillary testing; analyzes reports, test results, and medical records to diagnose conditions and prescribe appropriate pharmaceuticals, medications, and treatment options.
  • Refers patients to specialists for laboratory and radiology tests as needed.
  • Performs patient surgeries and procedures as needed.
  • Maintains timely and accurate documentation of examination results, pediatric treatment plans, and patients' outcomes in accordance with all regulatory and payer requirements.
  • Discusses healthcare practices, techniques, test results, and procedures in lay terms to explain medical treatments to patients and patients' families in a thorough, respected, and collaborative manner.
  • Advises patients and patients' families on lifestyle or diet changes that may improve their health conditions.
  • Coordinates with other specialty areas to discuss cases that require multi-disciplinary approach.
  • Responds to any questions or concerns of patients.
  • Participates in staff meetings, workshops, committees, and forums as required.
  • Assists in the supervision of medical assistants.
  • Provides supervision and education to medical students and residents.
  • May be requested to perform duties during non-routine clinic hours or at other associated clinic sites.
  • Performs other job-related activities, including inpatient admission and nursing home service, as requested.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited program of study leading to either an M.D. or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) required.
  • Current, unrestricted and valid State of Arizona license to practice medicine from the Arizona Board of Osteopathic Examiners in Medicine & Surgery. If licensed in another state, must possess such Arizona license within 1 year of hire.
  • Completion of an approved ACGME Pediatric Residency program required.
  • Board Certification in Pediatrics OR Board eligible and be in an active participation examination process leading to board certification.
  • Current or eligible for Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) licensure on hire. Demonstrates ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services.
