Background: Cahaba Medical Care Foundation is a community health center providing medical, pharmacy, dental, and behavioral health services to diverse underserved communities in Jefferson, Bibb, Perry, Chilton, and Wilcox counties. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Direct patient care at multiple locations / travel between Birmingham and Centreville
  • Review of treatment plans / collaboration with behavioral health staff on more complicated cases and patients with SUD
  • Telemedicine consults with CMCF providers or directly with patients in crisis situations
  • Recommending and designing treatment plans for patients
  • Treats a diverse patient population, across gender, age and ethnicity, as well as insured and uninsured patients.
  • Interviews and examines patient to determine health history and general physical condition. Performs physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines.
  • Orders or executes various tests, analyses, and diagnostic images to provide information on patient's condition.
  • Diagnoses conditions as appropriate
  • Prescribes or recommends drugs or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures.
  • Educates patients on a variety of health topics as appropriate during patient encounters
  • Provides accurate and timely documentation of all patient encounters including phone encounters
  • Completes Electronic Superbills on a daily basis that includes accurate ICD-9 and CPT codes
  • Participates in provider staff meetings to develop problem-solving techniques, and acquire team-building skills.
  • Participates in peer reviews.
  • Represent CMCF at conferences, meetings, and continuing education programs
  • Performs clinical and/or other organizational related services as directed by the Medical Director. Will also participate in precepting medical students and residents as assigned by the CMO. Serves as a resource to mid-level providers in clinic.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or as needed.


Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Current and valid board certification in psychiatry
  • Medical degree from an accredited medical school and completion of an approved psychiatric residency
  • Licensed to practice medicine in Alabama
  • Current DEA registration
  • Familiar with crisis assessment tools and techniques
  • Strong working knowledge of general psychiatric principles and practices
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills


Travel Required:
  • Physician will have direct patient care at Birmingham and Centreville locations on a weekly basis. CMC location for the remainder of the physician's weekly schedule (collaboration and telemedicine time) is open for discussion.
