Illustrative Examples of Essential Duties
- Supervises personnel in the Planning and Design team, with proven leadership skills and ability to delegate work.
- Has a thorough knowledge and understanding of planning and design best practices and standards; and ensures that the work produced by the team and consultants adheres to those standards.
- Is integrally familiar with the City's water, sewer and stormwater master plans; and is responsible for identifying the need and executing any necessary planning updates and design projects.
- Directs the team to execute designs and design reviews timely.
- Plans work for the team; manages schedules, resource allocations, ensures project remain within budget and on schedule.
- Thorough knowledge of engineering design, construction, and regulatory requirements
- Instructs, trains, and supervises personnel in all aspects of public works engineering
- Reviews plans prepared by the State Road Department and the County Public Works Department for highways and other facilities within the City and coordinates city work with these agencies
- Reviews, evaluates, and reports on City construction, engineering, or utility service operations
- Recommends technical standards for inclusion in specifications for public works construction
- Provides strategic planning level and detailed design input
- Performs related work as required
- Performs the duties of a Project Engineer and a Principal Engineer, when required
Minimum Requirements

- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering surveys
- Considerable knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to design and construction of Public Works projects
- Ability to instruct, train, and supervise personnel in all aspects of Public Works engineering
