Position Title: Pole Engineering Manager

Department: Plant Engineering

Reports To: Engineering Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt, Full-Time, Benefited

Position Summary:

Sonic's Pole Engineering Manager handles high level engineering items and relationships with outsourced engineering vendors. This position also manages the day-to-day operations of the Engineering PM and OSP Project Engineer positions ensuring they meet the project schedules and company goals.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

The Pole Engineering Manager is a full-time (40 hours per week), exempt position.

Travel: Travel may be required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Engineering Project Managers and OSP Project Engineers

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Keeping engineering vendors in line with Sonic requirements at a manager level.
  • Verifying engineering accuracies for Accounts Payable.
  • Being a Brand Ambassador with authorizing Utilities to ensure engineering is up to current standards.
  • Keeping training standards of Engineering Project Managers, OSP Project Engineers, Application Processors, internal / external Engineering staff updated.
  • Sets up engineering team with training classes as necessary.
  • Support the Engineering Department Manager in implementing new processes and procedures as necessary to meet jurisdictional requirements.
  • High level analyzation and accuracy checks of new engineering vendors for use by PMO group.
  • Answer high level field engineering questions as needed to prevent a construction stoppage.
  • Prepares weekly and monthly reports for Department Manager and Division Meetings.
  • Updates and Creates engineering documentation and training materials with input from team and management.
  • Confirms adherence to construction specifications and safety standards by monitoring project progress
  • Maintains operations by enforcing project and operational policies and procedures.
  • Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests both internally and externally.
  • Attends joint pole meetings as required by company needs.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Monitoring JIRA for accuracies, training team to be accurate & pulling monthly tracking reports for pole delivered vs pole expected.
  • Communicate with PMO Project Managers, Engineering Project Managers and Pole Engineer Team to make sure projects are prioritized in the correct order.
  • Communicating Sonic needs & expectations with outside engineering partners in a professional manner.
  • Communicating with the engineers of record when repetitive issues are taking place to prevent in future applications.
  • Perform annual employee reviews.
  • Approve billings and change orders created by Engineering Project Management team and ensures team is accurately following those procedures
  • Sign pole owner permit documentation

  • General Order 95 and/or NESC (National Electrical Safety Code)
