Job Summary
The City of Bellevue Police Department seeks a proactive and collaborative individual to serve as a Volunteer Program Coordinator. Committed to reducing crime and the fear of crime while ensuring the safety and well-being of our community, our Police Department is dedicated to fostering partnerships with the public. The Police Volunteer Program Coordinator plans, develops, and manages Volunteer and/or Internship programs, including creating a mission, goals, policy, procedures, and marketing to increase public awareness. Provides oversight of program operations. Although this position's primary task is as a volunteer administrator, this job will have additional responsibilities with the efficient operations of various programs/initiatives of the police department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Defines and develops volunteer or internship positions.
  • Recruits, screens, trains, and places volunteers; sets up work schedules, and monitors workload.
  • Monitors and reviews volunteer or intern performance and may oversee internal communication and recognition programs.
  • May coach and counsel volunteers, interns, and staff on all relevant personnel issues and concerns.
  • May prepare newsletters as well as reports, presentations, and policies relating to program development.
  • Assists the Planning and Research Major with implementing and following through on various police department programs and initiatives. This assistance may include scheduling meetings, coordinating events, internal and external communication, and project management.

  • Exercises supervision over volunteers, as assigned.

  • Considerable knowledge of budget development and management.
  • Considerable skills and knowledge of recruitment, selection and supervision techniques.

  • Ability to relate and work with a broad and varied population; Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures to ambiguous situations; Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Three or more years of professional-related experience in volunteer or project management.
  • Experience as an administrative assistant is preferred.
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license.
  • Washington State Patrol Access Certification, or ability to attain within six months of hire.
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age who can read and speak fluent English and either:
    • A US citizen, or
    • A lawful permanent resident, or
    • A Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipient with employment authorization from USCIS.

Paydays - The City of Bellevue pays employees on the 8th and the 23rd of each month (24 pay periods per year).

Please note that the City does not participate in the Social Security Administration (SSA) program, and employees do not earn social security credits. The mandatory DRS retirement pension plan provides the required social security replacement plan. Any social security benefits earned at other places of employment may be reduced because they are subject to the Windfall Elimination Provision or the Government Pension Offset.
