We are currently seeking a Technical Pour Line Manager responsible for overseeing all foam pouring activities at our plant in Orange, CA. This key technical role involves managing one or more Pour Line Supervisors and is responsible for training a Chemical Engineer. The successful candidate will work directly with the pour line team to monitor and improve processes, ensuring safety, production efficiency, and quality standards are met in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Responsibilities

  • Safety Leadership:
    • Ensure safety is the number one priority in all pour line activities, following all safety and environmental procedures. Oversee EH&S (Environmental Health and Safety) activities for the pouring department.
  • Leadership and Management:
    • Act as a leader within the plant organization, reporting directly to the Plant Manager.
    • Assume complete management responsibility for all pouring department operations.
    • Be fully capable of pouring foam and supervising hourly production in the absence of the Pour Line Supervisor and/or Pour Line Engineer.
  • Operational Excellence:
    • Ensure foam requirements are met in a cost-effective and efficient manner, supplying the plant with foam blocks that meet quality requirements and customer needs in a timely manner.
    • Plan work schedules and assign duties to maintain adequate staffing levels, ensuring activities are performed effectively and responding to fluctuating workloads.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Conduct trials of new formulations and chemicals, making adjustments to existing formulations as necessary to meet product specifications.
  • Performance Management:
    • Evaluate the performance of supervisors and pour line engineers, acting as a coach and mentor for ongoing training and development.
    • Identify opportunities within the department and plant for continuous improvement in foam quality and work processes.
  • Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with other managers and employees to solve work-related problems.
    • Provide analytical expertise for process improvements using Lean tools such as Statistical Quality Control (SQC) and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Problem Solving:
    • Troubleshoot equipment problems and solve process issues with the help of plant engineering and maintenance teams, as well as corporate engineering resources as needed.
    • Directly facilitate continuous improvement teams and training.
  • SAP Proficiency:
    • Handle all pour line functions in SAP and be able to teach transactions to new supervisors.


Qualifications

  • Education and Experience:
    • A technical degree in engineering or science discipline is preferred, with a minimum of five years of experience managing a PU foam production operation. Chemical or mechanical engineering degrees are preferred.
    • Candidates without a technical degree but with 10+ years of flexible slab stock foam production department management experience may be considered.
  • Skills and Qualifications:
    • Task-oriented individual capable of performing in a fast-paced environment.
    • Experience with SPC/SQC and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
    • Successful completion of a 24-hour HAZWOPER training course for proper procedures in handling hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
    • Strong planning, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
    • Basic mechanical and electrical aptitude to facilitate troubleshooting foam-making problems.
    • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Minitab proficiency is a plus.
    • Experience using SAP or a similar ERP system is a definite plus.
    • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, self-directed, and able to lead and facilitate diverse work teams.
    • Ability to positively interact with others in the plant in a team environment.
