That's why we're looking for a Pricing Manager to help to advance Venable's strategic pricing capabilities as a critical, competitive advantage for profitable growth and top-tiered client service. Additionally, the Pricing Manager will lead projects/workstreams within the Strategic Pricing function of Practice Management, which is responsible for analyzing and informing stakeholders across the firm on the performance of its Divisions, Practice Groups, and strategic business initiatives, as well as reporting on the profitability of client engagements.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for...
  • Defining, tracking and measuring firm and client performance for alternative fee arrangements
  • Evaluating pricing requests in RFPs and formulating appropriate pricing responses
  • Collaborating with internal teams to design and monitor performance against client/matter budgets, tiered client fee structures and key performance metrics
  • Identifying areas for improved productivity and efficiency including analysis of staffing leverage, revenue realization, costs of service deliveries, and performance against established quality metrics
  • Serving as a key member of the annual rate-setting process, providing analyses and reports on market and internal data relevant to standard rates
  • Supporting relationship attorney and business development efforts involving pricing management, including preparation of written materials and participation with client presentations and fee negotiations as required

  • A Bachelor's degree in related field or education/experience equivalent; MBA, JD, or other related advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience conducting financial/pricing analysis, preparing financial reports, and preparing/analyzing matter budget data
  • Experience within legal industry required
  • Experience performing comprehensive analyses of financial data (including profitability analyses) and developing financial models and reports
  • Experience developing and managing complex budgets, analyzing variance data, and creating useful reporting tools.
  • Experience with financial budgeting software, reporting and modeling tools, or business intelligence packages
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Information Builders, and SQL Server Reporting Services; experience with Aderant preferred
  • A high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations with poise, tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple projects/initiatives simultaneously while meeting deadlines and business objectives
  • Project Management experience, preferred


Pay Range for Candidates in Washington, DC:

$114,000 - $165,000 per year

The range provided is the minimum and maximum salary that Venable in good faith believes at the time of this posting that it is willing to pay for the advertised position. Exact compensation will be determined based on individual candidate qualifications and location.

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or related field or education/experience equivalent.
  • MBA, JD, or other related advanced degree preferred.

Skills & Technical Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience conducting financial analysis, preparing financial reports, and preparing/analyzing matter budget data.
  • Law firm experience is required.
  • Must have experience performing comprehensive analyses of financial data (including profitability analyses) and developing financial models and reports. Requires ability to formulate cost, pricing, and forecast models. Must be able to evaluate and summarize results of statistical analyses.
  • Must have experience developing and managing complex budgets, analyzing variance data, and creating useful reporting tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, Information Builders, and SQL Server Reporting Services.
  • Experience with financial budgeting software, reporting and modeling tools, or business intelligence packages is a plus.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in oral and written form. Requires ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Requires ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple projects/initiatives simultaneously while meeting deadlines and business objectives.
  • Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations with poise, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Travel to firm offices, professional conferences and educational events as requested.

Preferred Skills/Experience:
  • Familiarity with Aderant suite of products preferred.
  • Project management experience is preferred.
