Monday thru Friday 8am - 5pm
Responsibilities:
- Obtain health history and perform physical examinations.
- Diagnose and direct counseling for each patient on a plan for treatment.
- Prescribe medication in accordance with Florida statute and professional practice guidelines.
- Perform minor surgical procedures.
- Arrange referral for patients requiring services not offered at the Health Center.
- Review incoming reports (e.g. lab, x-ray, EKG) sign, date and follow-up in a timely manner.
- Participate in staff outreach and off-site health care programs in the Health Center area as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer.
- Supervise students in training at the Health Center as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer.
- Supervise mid-level practitioners (physician assistants and nurse practitioners).
- Comply with the Health Center Infection Control Plan which includes personally utilizing universal precautions. Ensure compliance by support staff.
- Participate in peer review, quality assurance, provider meetings and other clinical meetings.
- Participate in all safety programs, which may include assignment to an emergency response team.
- Assist in updating protocols and principles of practice as requested.
- Assist in outside medical public relations functions.
- Adhere to UDS productivity standards and meet at least the minimum requirement.
- Other responsibilities as assigned to create a smoothly run efficient clinic
- All providers are responsible for participation in any ongoing quality improvement activities in the clinical area.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong diagnostic and clinical skills in primary care and preventive medicine.
- Ability to manage chronic conditions and acute illnesses.
- Excellent communication skills, both with patients and multidisciplinary teams.
- Empathy and cultural sensitivity when working with diverse patient populations.
- Knowledge of electronic health records (EHR) systems and documentation practices.
- Ability to educate and motivate patients about health and wellness.
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills in fast-paced environments.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with regulatory standards.
- Collaborative mindset for team-based care and community outreach.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and quality improvement.
Education/Experience:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
- Completion of a residency program in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in primary care, preferably in an FQHC or underserved community setting.
- Experience in managing chronic conditions, preventive care, and acute health issues.
- Familiarity with electronic health records and medical documentation.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations, including those from low-income or underserved communities, is highly preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Physical Demands:
- Standing and Walking: Prolonged periods of standing and walking during patient exams and rounds.
- Lifting: Occasionally lifting or assisting patients with mobility challenges.
- Manual Dexterity: Performing medical procedures, administering injections, and handling equipment.
- Vision and Hearing: Ability to observe patients, read charts, and hear patient concerns clearly.
- Bending and Reaching: Bending to examine patients or access medical supplies and equipment.
- Stamina: Ability to work long hours, including potential on-call shifts, in a busy clinical environment.
