JOB DESCRIPTION

Purpose Statement
The job of Principal is done for the purpose/s of selection and evaluation of staff, scheduling, making budgetary decisions and plant and office management.

Essential Functions
  • Chairs meetings (e.g. curriculum, safety, site advisory, special district committees, etc.) for the purpose of coordinating activities and ensuring that outcomes achieve school, district and/or state objectives.
  • Composes a wide variety of materials (e.g. quantity reports, student activities, correspondence, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
  • Delegate's responsibility for a variety of administrative functions to Assistant Principals and other personnel for the purpose of managing the workload more efficiently.
  • Evaluates assigned personnel for the purpose of ensuring that standards are achieved and performance is maximized.
  • Facilitates communication between personnel, students and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems and/or resolving conflicts.
  • Implements policies, procedures and/or processes for the purpose of providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements.
  • Manages school administrative functions (e.g., budget staffing, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining safe and efficient school operations within district guidelines.
  • Presents information (e.g. budget overviews, accounting processes, distribution formulas, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information, gaining feedback and ensuring adherence to established internal controls.
  • Represents the school within community forums for the purpose of maintaining ongoing community support for educational goals and/or assisting with issues related to school environment.
  • Supervises school personnel for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives of schools curriculum.
  • Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Responsible for implementing District mandated curriculum.
  • Responsible for implementing and supervising extracurricular programs.
  • Ability to use and implement teacher supervision and positive discipline procedures as a tool to improve instruction.
  • Strong human relations skills.
  • Ability to facilitate group processes for collaborative management.

Minimum Qualifications
Mental Requirements
Learning Development- Level F Advanced, in-depth understanding in a widely recognized field of study. additional command of principles, facts, and practices associated with multiple specialized fields. Learning development is achieved by the completion of a master's degree program or equivalent, very advanced mathematics and language development, advanced understanding of practical systems.
Problem Solving - Level 3 Work situations are of sufficient scope and variety that significant interpretation and evaluation is required to successfully recognize and define problems. Highly technical judgments and/or constructive thinking involved. Alternative solutions must be considered and short-term action plans must be developed and sequenced.
Physical Requirements
Physical Skill - Level A Basic level of learned physical skill is required. No special coordination beyond that used for normal mobility and handling of everyday objects and materials is needed to perform the job satisfactorily.
Physical Effort - Level 1 Minimal physical exertion is required. Most job time is spent sitting with occasional walking. Occasional lifting, guiding, and carrying of lightweight materials or equipment.
Social Requirements
Human Relations Skill- Level C Highly developed verbal skills are required to communicate technical concepts and ideas in individual, group, and large audience situations. Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperation, understanding, trust, and credibility is critical. Skill at influencing the behavior of others is important and may be difficult to achieve.
Scope of Contacts - Level 2 Interpersonal contacts extend to peers in other work groups, or to clients/customers who speak the language, either within or outside the organization. interactions with higher levels of authority beyond the immediate supervisor must be conducted on an intermittent basis.

Performance Environment - Level C Work pressure, disturbances of workflow, and/or irregularities in the work schedule are frequent and require significant adaptation. The performance environment rapidly evolves, requiring continual upgrading of multiple yet related skills.
Physical Working Conditions - Level 1 Generally good working conditions. Little or no exposure to extremes in noise, temperature, etc. little or no exposure to safety or health hazards.

Generally, first-line management work, supervising through intermediate supervisors or staff professionals in a single function.

  • 3 years of Secondary Administrative Experience
  • Master's degree in Educational Leadership or Administration
  • Arizona Administrative certificate

Experience, Education, and Certifications
Experience: 3 years successful administrative experience preferred
Education: Master's degree from an accredited educational institution.
Certifications/Clearances: Arizona Standard Professional Principal Certificate. Must possess a valid Arizona DPS Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card while employed.
