Sr. Principal AI Research Scientist
This company's Toronto AI Lab is looking to push the boundaries of AI. We do this by performing game changing research and support innovative product and service solutions to realize their global vision for a connected world. To further this initiative, we are looking for a passionate and talented Senior Principal AI Research Scientist for our Toronto AI Lab (located in downtown Toronto). You will leverage your research expertise and leadership skills to spearhead novel research in Machine Learning which will have impact and improve their existing products and technologies. You will collaborate with researchers, engineers, and product managers from both Toronto AI Lab as well as global AI labs to design and launch AI products and solutions that help predict, personalize and transform lifestyles of their global footprint of devices and users.
This person will set the research roadmap for our talented team of roughly 20+ members which include AI research engineers, Staff engineers, Data scientists and more. Although the company is well known, their AI Research operates like a well-funded start-up. We are seeking someone with advanced AI knowledge, with multimodal modeling experience and who also has a good business sense. We would like someone with a solid Academic background but more importantly has also been effective and has had solid experience in industry as well. You would be joining executive meetings so this person should have demonstrated leadership experience.
Title: Principal AI/ML Scientist
Location: Toronto, ON M5V 1M3
Work model: Hybrid, 2 days in office 3 days remote. There is a chance of 100% remote worker for those outside of Ontario.
Type of position: Full time and permanent
Salary: Very open to market + 20% bonus + 3-4 weeks vacation + Benefits + RRSP ( New employees from 0-3 years can contribute up to 2.5% . theur will match the 2.5% and contribute an extra 2% which makes a total of 7%, **Employees can contribute more than 2.5% but will only match 2.5%**)
Key job responsibilities
As a hands-on leader of the lab, you will be responsible for defining key AI research directions, working with research teams to conduct experiments and publishing results in top tier AI conferences/journals
As a strategic leader, you will be responsible for developing the AI research roadmap, prioritizing and delivering research goals aligned with business priorities. Also, be a reviewer for changes or technical decision-making, and develop/drive technical review processes.
You will summarize, report, and present complex and highly technical problems and solutions to audiences with a wide variety of skills and domain knowledge
You will also participate in organizational planning, hiring, mentorship and leadership development
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, or related quantitative discipline
10+ years of innovative AI research experience, with strong scientific and problem-solving skills
Deep expertise in the science of artificial intelligence
Strong core competency in mathematics and statistics
Track record of successful projects in algorithm design and product development.
Publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
Strong prior experience with mentorship and/or management of scientists and engineers
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Effective verbal and written communication skills with non-technical and technical audiences
Expert level skills across many Machine Learning methodologies
Experience working with real-world data sets and building scalable models from big data.
Experience securing and collaborating with external partners such as academic, industry, and/or other research institutes
Thinks strategically, but able to execute and get tasks completed
Exhibits excellent research judgment; balances science, product, and business very well
This technical leader for AI research will be an independent thinker who can make convincing, information-based arguments. With a strong bias for action, this individual will work equally well with science, engineering, and business teams. This person will have very sound judgment and be able to recruit and groom high caliber talent
