The successful Principal Automation Engineer will develop and implement Automation solutions for the supply, modernization and installation of Hot and Cold Rolling Mills.

What you'll do
  • Act as a technical expert for rolling mill processes (hot and cold rolling) for all project life cycles (sales, development, commissioning, and support )
  • Develop and implement Automation control systems that include motion control, advanced sensors, VFD drives, and actuators
  • Support existing installed systems and assist customers with challenging technical issues
  • Lead Level 1 control system development based on department standards, function descriptions, mechanical and hydraulic layouts, and knowledge of the process and equipment
  • Complete sophisticated assignments requiring development of new and/or improved engineering techniques and procedures
  • Interface and communicate with local project team (project managers, engineers, support personnel) and internal experts from other areas as well customers and suppliers to provide engineering solutions to technical issues and project-related matters
  • Lead integrated testing and simulation of entire system before delivery to the end customer
  • Perform on site commissioning and training as required

What you'll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 15 years' experience in an engineering role in metals or a similar industry
  • Experience with Hot and Cold Rolling process
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
  • Experience in automation and/or automation practices
  • Experience with X-Pact LogiCAD/Probas and/or Siemens TIA Portal preferred
  • Demonstrates ability to apply engineering principles to the solution of design problems
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and mentor less experienced personnel
  • Be willing to travel to support the project work
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as excellent computer skills
