Company: Oura

Location: New York, NY 10025

Description:

At Oura, our mission is to empower every person to own their inner potential. With our award-winning Oura Ring and app, we help over 2.5 million people turn insights about sleep, activity, and readiness into healthier, more balanced lives. We believe that starts from within - by creating a culture where our team feels supported, included, and inspired to do their best work. Our values guide how we show up for each other and our community every day.

We have offices in San Francisco and San Diego, with informal coworking meetups in other cities like Boston and New York for those who prefer in-person connection.

The Role

We're looking for a Principal Cloud Enterprise Architect to lead the architectural strategy for Oura's internal business systems and enterprise technology-spanning SaaS platforms, cloud services, and integration infrastructure used by internal teams (not our consumer-facing product). This is a senior individual contributor with light team leadership responsibilities role that combines strategic vision with hands-on technical expertise.

This role reflects a modern, adaptive approach to enterprise architecture-focused on agility, business alignment, and measurable outcomes. Rather than traditional systems architecture, you'll focus on scalable, modular, and resilient patterns that evolve with the needs of a fast-growing organization.

You'll align technology decisions with enterprise-wide strategy, helping Oura scale effectively while maintaining security, compliance, and architectural integrity. You'll bring deep experience in cloud-native architecture and enterprise systems design, collaborating across IT, Security, Data, and Engineering to ensure business systems architecture supports internal operations and scales with our enterprise needs.

Responsibilities
  • Set the enterprise architecture vision and roadmap across Oura's IT and business systems, ensuring long-term scalability, agility, and security.
  • Establish and champion modern architecture patterns (microservices, continuous delivery, AI-driven system, auto-scalable infrastructure, event-driven) that guide design and integration across platforms.
  • Design and prototype AWS-based or iPaaS services such as secure data pipelines, authentication flows, and integrations that connect internal platforms and external SaaS systems.
  • Define and maintain architectural standards and governance, supporting compliance, audit readiness, and operational excellence.
  • Lead technical design reviews and collaborate cross-functionally with IT, Security, Engineering, and Data to align architecture decisions with business goals.
  • Advise on strategic technology investments, contributing to platform evaluations, modernization roadmaps, and integration strategies.
  • Champion modern DevOps and observability practices, including CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, automation, and monitoring with tools like Datadog, CloudWatch, or OpenTelemetry.

Requirements
  • 12+ years of experience in enterprise or cloud architecture, with a focus on cloud-native, SaaS-driven environments.
  • Deep technical knowledge of the AWS ecosystems, including designing secure, scalable solutions using services like Lambda, API Gateway, S3, Step Functions, and EventBridge.
  • Deep expertise in modern integration architectures, including RESTful APIs, asynchronous messaging, and event-driven patterns, preferably with iPaaS platforms like Workato.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing enterprise architecture standards that support auditability, access management, and change control-especially in regulated or maturing business environments.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a track record of influencing cross-functional decisions and translating complex architecture into actionable plans.
  • Familiarity with enterprise SaaS platforms (e.g., NetSuite, Zendesk, HubSpot), and experience with security and compliance frameworks such as HIPAA, SOC 2 and NIST.
  • Experience with globally deployed SaaS solutions to meet regional data residency, scalability, and flexibility requirements across diverse customer bases.
  • Hands-on experience with DevOps tools and methodologies (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, CI/CD, containers), cost-aware architecture, data modeling, and architecture visualization through diagrams.
  • AWS Solutions Architect - Professional certification is required.

Who You Are
  • Strategic, but not hands-off-you enjoy translating architectural vision into real-world solutions.
  • Thoughtful and detail-oriented, with a strong sense of ownership over both quality and outcomes.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and driving clarity through strong technical design.
  • Passionate about scalable, modern architecture and enabling teams to build better, faster, and more securely.
