Principal Engineer, Materials

Beehive Industries is dedicated to Powering American Defense by revolutionizing the design, development, and delivery of jet propulsion systems to support the warfighter. Through the integration of additive manufacturing, the company aims to meet the growing and urgent needs for unmanned aerial defense by dramatically improving a jet engine's speed to market, fuel efficiency, and cost.

Founded in 2020, the company is headquartered in Centennial, Colorado, with additional facilities in Knoxville, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mount Vernon, Ohio. Beehive is committed to grow and advance the defense industrial base while manufacturing exclusively in the USA. This role will be located at our Loveland, Ohio facility.

The Principal Engineer, Materials responsibilities include the following:

• Propulsion system & module-based material application engineering ownership
• Manufacturing & design Integrated product team engagement
• Drawing review & sign off
• Specification and specification process co-ownership
• Material development technical leadership & project management partnership
• Materials related outside supplier partnership (Heat Treatment)
• Provide design guidance for select materials
• Technical mentorship for the team

Main Qualifications:

• Master's degree in physics, metallurgy, materials, mechanical engineering, or equivalent experience
• 5-8 years of hands-on gas turbine experience
• Deep hands-on experience with characterizing machines, materials, and process
• Ability to translate theory to requirements and executional examples in a rapid innovation cycle.

Preferred Qualifications:

• PHD in physics, Metallurgy or Materials Engineering
• 8-10 years of hands-on gas turbine experience
• Deep hands-on experience with characterizing machines, materials, and process
• Ability to translate theory to requirements and executional examples in a rapid innovation cycle.
• 3-5 years of project management expertise
• Working knowledge of other AM modalities ie LPBF, DED, BJET.
• Working knowledge of gas turbine design & analysis with a focus on materials and/or lifing of components

Interpersonal Skills:

• Roll up sleeve attitude with a methodical and systematic approach
• Teamwork centric with strong oral and writing communication skills
• Interest in lab work and lab environment
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with ambiguity
• Passion for additive manufacturing and materials engineering
