Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Principal Engineer to join our rapidly expanding team in Troy, MI. Element Troy provides testing and engineering services to manufacturers and leading suppliers in the passenger car, light truck, bus, off-highway and military vehicle sectors. Its range of capabilities includes data collection and analysis, noise and vibration, custom transducers, strain gauging, impact/pendulum testing and route development/correlation.

As a member of the operations team, the Principal Engineer position performs a variety of routine and non-routine testing assignments within the department assigned and insures timely and accurate test results under minimal direct supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Is a key contributor to defining and focusing Element goals and objectives in alignment with his/her specific engineering discipline
  • Provide technical and engineering leadership, and supports the development of new technologies within a local laboratory
  • Be accountable for accurate and timely release of testing data to customers including sign-offs of quality control data as acceptable
  • Has an advanced ability to define solutions for and lead extremely complex challenges and new projects
  • Serves as a key or top level technical advisor and may be recognized as an expert in their given technical discipline within Element and/or the global TIC sector
  • Skilled communicator of idea, concepts, practices, etc. to stakeholders at all levels of the company


Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science degree in engineering or testing related field
  • Will have 10-15 years' relevant experience post-degree or higher academic qualifications
  • Familiar With Real Time Multi-Axis Simulation and Durability Testing using MTS Flex 200 Controllers and Software
  • Be able to provide direction on transducer placement to achieve test results requested
  • Transducer Development and Calibration
  • Data review and editing using nCode GlyphWorks
  • Project management
  • Document Daily customer communications and provide weekly meetings with trackers on applicable programs
  • Establish, document and Report out on project status percent completion (by line item). Timing associated with the projects will also need to be tracked
  • Complete reports within 10 days of test/data completion
  • Maintain and Share Current Price Guide, modify as needed to make this a sustainable tool. This will enable the commercial / engineering team to further assist with the quoting process over time
  • Assist the commercial and operational team in advancing ideas to further grow the business with new technology and opportunity
  • Have Experience with MTS Software and Test Stands
