Primary Purpose
This position is a key advisor in Sempra's 5 Year Planning process, which includes the modeling, consolidation, and analysis of Sempra's corporate wide long-range plan that will be used for strategic decision making. Additionally, this position acts as an advisor to senior management (CFO, Controller, Treasurer and other VPs) for business issues impacting corporate financial performance. The role is highly connected with Business Units, Treasury, Tax and Corporate Development to provide a live and accurate view of Sempra's near-term and long-term financial plan. Expertise in position provides direction to Senior Analysts and Analysts (where applicable) within the department.

Duties and Responsibilities
Corporate Financial Analysis
- Maintain and continuously improve Sempra's company-wide financial planning model (including both earnings and credit).
- Update to reflect known and anticipated issues at Business Units, tax changes, financing needs and new GAAP requirements.
- Analyze acquisitions, divestitures, spin, split and other strategic transactions.
- Use broad financial knowledge to understand financial interdependencies in order to facilitate necessary changes.
- Develop and integrate new models to help Sempra's overall financial forecasting reliability and consistency.
- Work with Business Units, Treasury, Tax and Corporate Development to understand and track key business issues and incorporate into financial plan in order to provide a "live" view to senior management.
- Serve as an advisor to corporate management on financial concepts and/or accounting changes.
Business Unit Analysis
- Perform economic evaluations of projects and/or Business Units.
- Serve as an advisor to the Business Units on financial concepts and/or accounting changes.
- Evaluate and understand external environment to anticipate impact to businesses.
Capital Structure Analysis
- Modeling of high-level finance with conceptual and theoretical accounting concepts.
- Research, understand and plan for hybrid financial instruments.
- Perform Ad Hoc analysis of optimal capital structures, project viability, and arbitrage opportunities.
Rating Agency Analysis
- Work with Treasury department to analyze Sempra's optimal Capital Structure.
- Incorporate rating agency methodology and stay up to date with changes to approach to credit metrics.
- Develop three statement GAAP financials.
Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
Education
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, related field or equivalent experience is required.
- Master's degree is preferred.
Experience
- 8+ years of experience in financial analysis within planning departments, investment banking, private equity, private debt, consulting, or related fields is required, preferably with a focus on analysis of utility or infrastructure projects.
- Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
- We offer a hybrid work environment. Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow you to work from the office three days per week and work remotely on the remaining workdays.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of capital markets, strategic financing and M&A and associated Credit and earnings accretion / dilution analysis is required.
The following skills and abilities are preferred:
- Excellent Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Power Point skills.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP Financial Statements and understanding of how each statement is related to others.
- Clear and concise communication of complex financial concepts.
- Energy infrastructure and power & utilities industry.
Licenses and Certifications
- Professional certification (CFA, CPA, CMA, etc.) is preferred.
