Responsibilities

MaxLinear is seeking a Principal Foundation IP Design Engineer to join our team. You will play a critical role in the technology and IP section for the product, driving value-added IP development, optimization, and deployment. This position provides the opportunity to learn about the technology, design, tool, and methodology interactions that drive the development of products targeting broadband, mobile, and wireline infrastructure, data center, and industrial applications. In this role, you will focus on the following:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities to maximize process entitlement and optimize PPA metrics
  • Drive design technology co-optimization (DTCO) efforts for new technologies
  • Research low power design strategies and propose ideas to ensure robust circuit operation that meets performance targets at the lowest possible power
  • Conduct feasibility studies and develop strategies to analyze designs, compare IPs, and identify opportunities to maximize process entitlement
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and other teams
  • Explore and evaluate new EDA tools and tool features to improve productivity, and propose design, analysis, and optimization strategies
  • Communicate findings, insights, and recommendations to stakeholders and senior management


Qualifications

  • Experience in standard cell design, analysis, and layout optimization, custom IP design, and foundation IP library management
  • Expertise in EDA tools, methodologies, and flows for physical design from floor-planning, place-and-route, static timing analysis (STA), physical (DRC, LVS, DFM), and electrical validation (ERC, EM/IR, and signal integrity)
  • Experience with low-power implementation flows and methodologies like clock and power-gating, dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS), multi-voltage domain designs, power-collapse, and leakage recovery
  • Knowledge of transistor-level/gate-level circuit design, HDLs like Verilog/VHDL, standard cell characterization, circuit/design simulation, logic synthesis, and experience driving pathfinding/technology benchmarking and design optimization activities
  • Experience working with FINFET and/or other modern transistor technologies and designs targeting technology nodes 7nm and below
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly convey complex ideas. Demonstrated experience working with teams spread across different continents
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related + 9 years of experience, or MS + 7 years of experience, or Ph.D. + 4 years of experience


Compensation and Benefits

MaxLinear has a Total Compensation philosophy which includes base salary and annual discretionary bonus eligibility and many positions also include stock-based compensation.

MaxLinear expects to offer a starting base salary within the range of: $120,300 to $190,000 Annually

The actual starting base salary will be determined by the match to certain role-related criteria such as educational degree(s) or equivalent, relevant work experience, skillset needed for the role, and geographic location; this is not an all-inclusive list as some roles may require unique skills or experience.
