Purpose:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal FPGA Engineer to join our dynamic team in the digital modem space. As a Principal FPGA Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and optimization of advanced FPGA-based solutions for high-performance digital modems and telecommunication systems. Your expertise will drive innovation and ensure the successful deployment of cutting-edge technologies that meet the demands of the modern telecommunications landscape.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy:
Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of FPGA-based systems for digital modems and telecommunications applications.
Define and drive the technical vision and strategy for FPGA development within the team.
Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing technical leadership and support throughout the project lifecycle.
Design and Development:
Develop and optimize high-performance FPGA designs for digital signal processing (DSP), modulation, demodulation, and other telecommunications functions.
Create and maintain detailed design specifications, test plans, and documentation.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate FPGA designs with system-level hardware and software components.
Verification and Validation:
Oversee the development and execution of FPGA verification and validation plans, including simulation, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, and performance evaluation.
Identify and troubleshoot complex design issues, implementing effective solutions to ensure reliability and performance.
Innovation and Improvement:
Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in FPGA design and digital communications.
Propose and implement innovative solutions to enhance the functionality and efficiency of FPGA-based systems.
Project Management:
Manage multiple FPGA design projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
Coordinate with project managers and other stakeholders to define project requirements and deliverables.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience satisfying DoD contractual obligations: Hardware/Software Requirements
Specifications (HRS/SRS) and Hardware/Software Design Documents (HDD/SDD)
Experience presenting to DoD customers: System Design Review (SDR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR)
Hardware experience:
Board-level schematic capture and debug
Proficient with bench test equipment (digital oscilloscope, logic analyzer, spectrum analyzer)
Requirement definition, decomposition, and compliance risk assessment utilizing trade studies, analysis, simulation, and lab data collection
DSP, Wireless Communications, RF experience:
Defining, analyzing, and validating wireless communication requirements spanning user data network processing through RF
Broad knowledge of the end-to-end SATCOM ground station architecture from the physical layer through the application layer
Working knowledge with SATCOM waveforms like DVB-S2X and DSSS
Demonstrated experience supporting multi-disciplinary, cross functional and matrixed teams
Strong communication skills and experience presenting to customers and senior leadership; ability to effectively work and communicate with all levels of management and customers
Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.)
Requirements:
10+ years of FPGA experience:
Bachelors in Electrical Engineering or related degree.
Active DoD Top Secret Clearance
FPGA implementation using Verilog and VHDL hardware description languages
Proficient with FPGA simulation tools (ActiveHDL, RivieraPRO, SystemVerilog, Questa)
Experience with FPGA/Processor SoCs (Agilex, Zynq)
Experience designing FPGA communications protocols (PCIe, 100 GbE, SerDes)
