We are currently seeking an experienced Principal (Layout) Designer to join Sedgman in our Vancouver office. A phenomenal career opportunity with continuous growth and progression. An opportunity to lead a team as well. The Layout Designer will be responsible for preparing and overseeing concept and design drawings relating to plant, equipment, services or other facilities. Management of a team of designers, the direction, development and maintenance of drafting systems, processes and procedures and ensuring these are implemented.

The role will require although not be limited to:
  • Lead a team of experienced designers in large and complex detail design processes
  • Develop detailed designs, models, drawings, and specifications in accordance with industry standards and project specifications
  • Prepare PFS and detailed design drawings of plant, equipment, services, or other structures as directed
  • Knowledge of piping and structural modelling advantages
  • Plant Layout knowledge advantages
  • Oversee the preparation of design and detail drawings from plans, sketches, or other design/specification data
  • Direct the work of detail and design drafters and ensure the drawings comply with plans to conform to the specifications supplied
  • Participate in the review of designs and advise on technical drafting difficulties or government compliance requirements as appropriate
  • Regular maintenance of drafting TO DO lists
  • Contribute to periodic reporting e.g., Project progress, resource requirements, Project budget versus cost, priorities, allocation of work, team needs
  • Ensure checking and review processes are completed. Review designs to ensure accuracy and compliance with codes, Canadian/ International Standards and Sedgman Standards
  • Comply with the Change Management process for engineering design
  • Upkeep of drawing list and percentage complete status
  • Participate in the development and continuous improvement of the Quality management process and system
  • Understand Sedgman standard specifications, typical/standard drawings, and calculations/simulations to reflect current industry standards

What are we looking for?
  • Associate Diploma in CAD / Associate Degree in Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in design/consultancy/operational environment
  • Autodesk suite of products skills
  • Mining and/or Metals industry experience
  • Experience in heavy industry environment
  • Bill of Materials (BOM)
  • Production of Iso drawings
  • Knowledge of Autodesk Plant 3D would be an asset
  • Skills in MS Office suite
  • Ability to work dynamically in a changing industry

The salary offered to the successful person for this position will consider education, experience, relevant skills and capability, geographic location and market conditions at the time of hire.

Salary Range: 120,000 - 170,000
